Job summary

Patriot Disposal / Apple Valley Waste is seeking a dependable Staff Accountant to join our growing team. You will support key accounting functions, maintain accurate financial records, and help ensure timely and accurate financial reporting.

Summary: Responsible for recording and reconciling monthly accounting activity. The role includes journal entries, reconciliations, payroll, billing, AR analysis, collections, variances, and GAAP compliance, with opportunities for long-term career growth.

Qualifications

• B.S. in Accounting from an accredited four-year college or university, is preferred.
• Plus 3-5 years of related experience
• Excellent knowledge of Excel, Word, Outlook, and SharePoint required
• Able and willing to work under deadlines.
• Exceptional level of accuracy and attention to details
• Strong error detection, problem-solving, decision-making, and analytical skills
• Ability to work both independently and in a team environment
• Desire to continuously develop oneself
• Strong organizational and time-management skills
• Excellent communication and presentation skills

Responsibilities

• Compiles and analyzes data to record monthly journal entries including prepaids, fixed assets, accruals, and credit card activity
• Reconcile daily receipts activity to subsidiary, including credit card receipts; prepare monthly bank reconciliations
• Reconcile balance sheet accounts including prepaid, fixed assets, and accruals across subsidiary schedules
• Process weekly payroll and implement payroll changes
• Record and reconcile monthly health insurance expenses and reconcile to employee deductions
• Prepare all bi-monthly and monthly customer billing
• Assist in analyzing AR balance activity for customers and perform collections on past-due accounts receivable
• Prepare and analyze monthly variances for balance sheet and income statement accounts
• Assist with special projects and contribute to process improvements to ensure GAAP compliance

Required Education and Experience
