Summary
Bering Straits Native Corporation (BSNC) is seeking a full-time Staff Accountant for the Anchorage, AK corporate office.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Entering financial data such as accruals, deferrals, reclassifications, and interdepartmental entries into the ledger monthly basis, as well as preparing reports.
- Collaborating with internal departments to gather, analyze, and interpret relevant financial information.
- Performing account analysis to ensure that journal entries and balances are correct.
- Reconciling accounts with the general ledger including bank reconciliations.
- Gathering supporting documentation and performing recordkeeping
- Ensure that financial information complies with professional and regulatory standards.
- Publish monthly and yearly financial statements and other management reports as needed.
- Assist in preparation of the DCAA Incurred Cost Submissions.
- Assist in the interim and annual audit gathering and reviewing documentation.
- All other duties as assigned by the Controller.

Required (Minimum Necessary) Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in related field.
- Two (2) years of diversified accounting experience including project, government contracting.
- May substitute master’s degree for experience.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, And Other Characteristics
- Knowledge and proficiency in the usage of computers, especially Microsoft Suite (i.e., Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
- Must have the ability to effectively present information whether written or verbally.
- Must demonstrate the ability to ask clarifying questions to be able to present financial data properly.
- Must be organized and be able to meet deadlines while multi-tasking.
- Skills to review data and explain variances over time or to budget.
Preferred
- Deltek Costpoint accounting system experience in a multi–company environment
- Previous experience working in an ANC.

Must be able to work in an office setting, sit for long periods of time, talk on the telephone, work on a computer for extended periods of time, and lift and carry up to 25 pounds on a periodic basis. Must possess visual acuity to review written documentation; ability to hear and understand speech at normal room levels and on the telephone; and the manual dexterity to operate a phone and keyboard.
Dot Covered/Safety-sensitive Role Requirements
- This position is not subject to federal requirements regarding Department of Transportation “safety-sensitive” functions.
- This position does perform DOT “safety-sensitive” functions (as defined under 49 CFR Part 40) and is subject to all federal requirements related to Department of Transportation requirements for those performing, or on-call to perform, “safety-sensitive” functions. Employees must provide a valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) and Medical Examiner’s Certificate (MEC).
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work Environment characteristics described here are representative of those that must be borne by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
The job is performed in an office setting with exposure to computer screens and requires extensive use of a computer, keyboard, mouse, and telephone. The work described herein is primarily in a modern office setting. Occasional travel may be required.
Supervisory Responsibilities
- Supervises a staff of Billing Specialists, Analyst, AR Supervisor.
Additional Qualifying Factors
As a condition of employment, you will be required to pass a pre-employment drug screening and have acceptable background check results. If applicable to the contract, you must also obtain the appropriate clearance levels required and be able to obtain access to military installations.
