Winter Park Racquet Club (WPRC) is a private, family-oriented country club located in the historic suburb of Winter Park in Central Florida, on the eastern shore of Lake Maitland. Founded in 1953, the club has a long-standing tradition of providing a welcoming environment for its approximately 500 members. WPRC offers a wide range of recreational amenities, including tennis, pickleball, lakefront activities, and a Junior-Olympic size swimming pool. Position Summary
The Staff Accountant supports the Finance department through accurate member accounting, accounts receivable and payable processing, month-end activities, audit support, and financial reporting. Reporting to the Director of Finance, this role offers hands-on experience across the Club's accounting operations and opportunities for continued professional growth.
- Prepare and distribute accurate monthly member statements on schedule.
- Process member payments and reconcile accounts receivable balances.
- Respond professionally and promptly to member billing and payment inquiries.
- Monitor outstanding member balances and support collection activity in accordance with Club procedures.
- Process approved credit memos and member-account adjustments accurately.
- Establish and maintain vendor records in Bill.com, including required Forms W-9 and certificates of insurance.
- Process accounts payable invoices, verify coding and approvals, and reconcile vendor statements.
- Assist with annual Form 1099 preparation and supporting schedules.
- Prepare recurring journal entries and assigned month-end account reconciliations.
- Assist with month-end close, financial reporting, audit schedules, and related documentation.
- Maintain complete, organized, and accessible electronic accounting records.
- Assist with budgeting, special projects, and accounting-process improvements.
- Perform other finance and accounting duties as assigned by the Director of Finance.
Compliance & Confidentiality
- Protect confidential member, employee, vendor, banking, and financial information at all times.
- Follow established accounting procedures, internal controls, approval requirements, record-retention practices, and Club policies.
- Promptly report discrepancies, suspected fraud, data-security concerns, or control issues to the Director of Finance.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in accounting or a related field, or active enrollment in an accounting degree program.
- Strong Microsoft Office skills, particularly Microsoft Excel.
- Excellent attention to detail, organization, accuracy, and time-management skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with a professional member-service approach.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment when handling sensitive information.
- Eagerness to learn month-end close procedures and develop technical accounting skills.
- Availability to work in person, primarily Monday through Friday, with additional hours as business needs require.
- Successful completion of required background screening and drug testing, and successful completion of assigned abuse-prevention training.
Preferred Qualifications
- Up to two years of accounting experience; relevant internship experience is a plus.
- Experience with Bill.com, member-accounting systems, accounts receivable, accounts payable, or private-club accounting.
