Job Description

The Lead Cook provides leadership and work direction to department team members, including but not limited to:

1. Organizing and assigning work
2. Prioritizing workload and assignments for efficient completion
3. Directing staff in completing their tasks successfully
4. Enforcing department and company rules
5. Training staff in their duties
6. Performing other leadership duties as assigned

Note: Lead Cooks do not handle scheduling, discipline, performance reviews, hiring, or terminations but may provide input to supervisors on these matters.

(The following are general responsibilities and not exhaustive.)

1. Deliver excellent guest service in line with the Boyd Gaming Way, maintaining a friendly and approachable demeanor.
2. Be knowledgeable about all Boyd Gaming outlets and answer general questions about the property.
3. Anticipate guest needs and respond with urgency.
4. Read food orders and prepare items according to menu plans.
5. Prepare food by washing, slicing, peeling, and cutting.
6. Test foods for proper cooking using tasting, smelling, or piercing methods.
7. Assist in directing kitchen staff to ensure standards are met.
8. Manage kitchen staffing levels based on business volume.
9. Engage with guests at the buffet line, explaining products and building relationships.
10. Coordinate with dining room staff on orders.
11. Assume limited charge of the kitchen during shifts and in supervisors' absence.
12. Deliver food to appropriate areas.
13. Coach and direct cooks and kitchen staff for efficiency.
14. Expedite food orders promptly.
15. Maintain cleanliness and safety of work areas and equipment.
16. Follow health regulations regarding food handling and storage.
17. Attend scheduled training programs.
18. Complete assigned opening, closing, and side duties.
19. Pass all training and tests to retain necessary knowledge.
20. Maintain a professional appearance.
21. Handle difficult guests professionally and work harmoniously with coworkers.
22. Follow Standard Operating Procedures to ensure consistency.
23. Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years old.
• Ability to prepare a variety of foods in a high-volume, fast-paced environment.
• Knowledge of sanitation procedures.

These skills are typically gained through at least three (3) years of related experience.
