Job Description
The Pastry Cook reports to the Pastry Demi Chef and Pastry Chef and supports baking and pastry menu items, including banquet preparation and organization. The role focuses on quality production, daily special development, and general operational support. Success is measured by guest satisfaction, organization, kitchen cleanliness, attitude, and product quality.
Position: Full Time, 32+ hours per week, generally 9a–5p. Weekends and holidays are required.
Requirements
- High school diploma. Baking & pastry degree, certification, or apprenticeship training preferred.
- At least one year of related culinary experience in a full-service restaurant strongly preferred; equivalent education and experience may be considered.
- Commitment to world‑class guest service and stellar dining experiences.
- Knowledge of food sanitation procedures; ServSafe certification preferred.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast‑paced, team dynamic environment with time sensitivities and production deadlines.
- Strong organizational, planning and time‑management skills.
- Read and execute recipes accurately.
- Operate effectively with minimal supervision.
- Take initiative and be proactive when appropriate.
- Exercise good judgment and creatively solve problems as necessary.
- Professional in appearance and demeanor at all times.
Essential Job Duties
- Maintain a clean, well‑organized work area; ensure all equipment is cleaned, maintained and in safe working order. Clean and organize all stations, coolers, sinks, and walk‑ins for the next shift.
- Check daily forecasts and BEOs to prepare, set up properly and ensure accurate information; write and follow daily checklists consistently.
- Accountable for proper rotation and dating of all food items.
- Ensure all items are prepared and presented to quality standards; plan in advance to ensure readiness for events and/or the next shift.
- Check food items daily for quality and freshness.
- Assist with both a la carte and banquet production.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to sit, stand, twist, bend, push, pull, walk, and lift up to 50 pounds on a regular basis for periods of up to 10 hours or more per day.
- Ability to work effectively in a kitchen environment with extremes in temperature (heat, cold, humidity) for an extended period of time.
