Job summary

Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston is seeking a Shift Leader to ensure the safety and security of clients in care while leading direct care staff on a shift. You will coordinate activities, coach staff, and participate in quality improvement as part of the service delivery team.

The role requires leadership experience in a youth services setting, a high school diploma or GED, and bilingual capabilities in Spanish and English.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Provide leadership, supervision, and evaluative input to youth care workers to ensure client safety and security on shift.
• Coordinate activities, problem-solve, and make decisions under supervision for staff on duty.
• Develop appropriate skills groups with the treatment team and facilitate sessions.
• Supervise kitchen staff to ensure food safety, meal prep, stock, and pantry management.
• Oversee client activities and ensure proper supervision and transportation as needed.
• Maintain accurate documentation and communicate with other service areas; use computer programs and databases.
• Create client progress notes and activity forms; file and organize documents daily/weekly.
• Ensure shelter security; monitor alarms, surveillance, and building inspections; handle repairs orders.
• Attend mandatory meetings and training; disseminate information to staff without computer access.
• Perform other duties as required by supervisor.

The Shift Leader is responsible for ensuring the safety and security of all clients in care through the provision of leadership and support to direct care staff on a given shift. Assists in the oversight of services by coordinating activities, problem-solving & making decisions under the direction of the coordinator and program director. Conducts meetings and provides ongoing coaching and evaluative input on direct care staff and participates in continuous quality improvement. Participate as a valuable part of the service delivery team.

What you Deliver

• Provides leadership, supervision, and evaluative input to youth care workers (YCW) to ensure client safety, and security at all times assigning specific duties and responsibilities while assisting staff in achieving expectations in a team atmosphere. Conducts camera supervision surveillance for at least 30 minutes to ensure staff accountability. Night Shift Leaders also ensure YCWs are alert and conduct supervision checks on youth according to program procedures
• Work with the treatment team to develop appropriate skills groups for clients. Effectively facilitate skills group meetings with clients
• Provide supervision and evaluative input to kitchen staff to ensure proper food safety practices, meal preparation, food usage, storage, menu completion, stock rotation, and maintain appropriate pantry stock
• Oversee all client's activities, ensure clients in care are closely supervised by youth care workers, and ensure that clients in care are provided with transportation during regular and special education, and recreational outings. Ensure that YCW/client ratios are always maintained following licensure guidelines, Cooperative Agreement, and program procedures
• Responsible for the ongoing completion of accurate documentation. Review of client activities/events that occurred while on duty. Review documentation for timeliness, accurateness, and professionalism. Be in constant communication with other service areas. Have working knowledge of computer programs and databases necessary to complete daily tasks including, but not limited to, population reports, e-mail communication, excel spreadsheets, scanning, and printing of adobe forms
• Night shift leaders must be able to perform duties such as creating client progress notes, weekly activity forms, monthly activity forms/calendar, and create new intake packets when needed. Night shift leaders support compliance by filing client progress notes, weekly activity forms, monthly activity/calendar, and redirection forms from previous shifts on a daily/weekly basis
• While on duty, responsible for the security of the shelter. Ensure all security, alarm, and surveillance systems are always functional. Document building inspections and placing work orders for repairs as needed
• Attend all mandatory meetings and training on time and distribute information to other staff about training or meetings. Assist in posting Catholic Charities agency or program level information for staff without computer access
• Perform other duties as required by supervisor

Qualifications

• One (1) year of experience in the child welfare field working with children or adolescents in a social service setting
• One (1) year in a leadership role
• Bilingual in Spanish in English.
• Valid Texas Driver’s License
