Job Details: Job Location: Illinois College - Jacksonville, IL 62650, Position Type: Student, Salary Range: $12.00 - $12.00 Hourly,

The IT Student Support – Specialized Initiatives role combines hands-on web design, system analytics, and lead classroom technology support. Working directly with the Manager of Client Technology & Support and Educational Technology Support Specialist, this position handles high-visibility projects including progressive web app updates, computing lab monitoring, and event audio/visual support.

Key Responsibilities

1. Progressive Web App (PWA) Development & UI Design
   • Update and refine the user interface (icons, gradients, page layouts) for the Illinois College PWA.
   • Learn and apply both front-end and back-end programming concepts supporting the application.
2. Lab Infrastructure & Analytics Monitoring
   • Monitor specialized computing environments, including the BIOPAC lab, advanced computing lab, and mobile laptop carts.
   • Learn and utilize Zabbix (dashboard monitoring) and Labstats (usage analytics) to track lab health and performance.
   • Clean up erroneous clients, rogue files, and configuration issues on lab computers.
3. Lead Classroom & Event Tech Support (Flex Technician)
   • Partner with the Educational Technology Support Specialist to support classroom hardware and software operations.
   • Take the lead in troubleshooting classroom tech issues, gathering diagnostic data, and relaying actionable technical updates to staff.
   • Assist with periodic equipment setups (such as projectors and portable screens) for campus events outside standard Service Desk operating hours.

Schedule, Off-Hours & Flexibility

• Advance Notice: Off-hours event setups are infrequent, and advance notice of at least a few days is standard.
• Scheduling: 10 hours; 10hr max per week. 2 of these hours will be spent working at the Service Desk reception desk.
• Compensatory Time: Hours worked outside standard shifts can be taken as compensatory time off against regular scheduled work hours.
• If a Service Desk technician is out while you are on shift, you will be asked to cover the service desk reception desk during your shift, so this includes answering the Service Desk phone; other duties in close relation to the ones mentioned above may be added / swapped out if the need arises.
