Job summary

BCforward in Charlotte, NC is seeking an SRE Transformation Engineer to design and drive our SRE strategy across banking and payments platforms. You will lead reliability initiatives, establish SLO/SLI frameworks, and partner with engineering, risk, and operations to improve resilience and reduce incidents.

This contract role spans 8 months and focuses on automation, observability, and reliability by design, requiring 8+ years of experience in SRE or platform engineering.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of experience in SRE, platform engineering or related reliability roles.
• Experience implementing SLO/SLI/error-budget frameworks at scale.
• Experience in regulated environments such as banking/payments.

We are seeking a SRE Transformation Engineer to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will have strong experience in leading SRE strategy, automation, observability, and reliability by design across banking and payments and a proven ability to reduce incidents, improve recovery, and scale engineering-led operations using SLO/SLI and error-budget frameworks.

Responsibilities

• Design and lead SRE practices, standards, and governance for banking and payments platforms.
• Implement reliability by design, observability, and automation to reduce incidents and MTTR.
• Establish and scale SLO/SLI/error-budget frameworks and drive data-driven operations.
• Partner with engineering, risk, and operations to improve resilience and control reliability risk.
• Lead incident reduction programs and operational toil elimination through tooling and automation.
• Influence senior stakeholders on reliability funding, metrics, and continuous improvement.

Required Skills & Qualifications

• Expertise across the four key SRE pillars: reliability by design, observability, incident response, and automation.
• Proficiency in resilient engineering and risk control for complex, regulated environments.
• Demonstrated ability to reduce incidents and improve recovery outcomes.
• 8+ years of experience in SRE, platform engineering, or related reliability roles.

Preferred Skills

• Proven leadership of SRE transformation in a large regulated enterprise.
• Track record implementing SLO/SLI/error budgets at scale and influencing executive stakeholders.
• Evidence of measurable reductions in incidents, MTTR, operational toil, and reliability risk.
• Ability to navigate ambiguity, establish credibility with technical peers, and communicate clearly.
• Domain knowledge in US banking and payments.
