UCLA Health is seeking a Staff Research Associate to conduct scientific research on the neuronal basis of human pain and addiction under the lab director. You will independently perform neuronal recordings, manage data workflows, and collaborate with clinicians and researchers.

The role requires experience in neuroscience research, data analysis, and proficiency with MATLAB/Python, with flexibility for day, night, and weekend shifts to coordinate with clinical procedures and patient availability.

Formación

• B.S. in Neuroscience or equivalent coursework and experience.
• Professional research or analytical experience.
• Ability to exercise a high degree of sensitivity, empathy, compassion, and professionalism with patients, healthcare professionals, and research collaborators.
• Knowledge of neurophysiology, cognitive neuroscience, and psychology.
• Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends and nights for patient data collection.
• Ability to independently manage different research experiments at once.
• Knowledge of computers and software programs including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Access.
• Ability to use MATLAB and Python and for manuscript preparation and poster presentations.

Responsabilidades

• Conduct neuronal recordings while administering experimental tasks to epilepsy and DBS patients with implanted electrodes.
• Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of researchers, clinicians, and staff.
• Prepare data for analysis using MATLAB, Brainlab, and FSL; present findings to the lab.
• Maintain inventory and oversee calibration/inspection of laboratory equipment.
• Assist with grant applications and IRB protocol submissions/renewals; draft correspondence.

The Staff Research Associate (SRA) will be responsible for conducting scientific research projects related to the neuronal basis of human pain and addiction under the supervision of the Director of the Surgical Neuromodulation and Brain Mapping Lab. Responsibilities include independently performing neuronal recordings while administering experimental tasks to epilepsy and DBS patients with implanted electrodes, as well as collaborating with a multidisciplinary team of researchers, clinicians, and clinical staff. The SRA will use software programs such as MATLAB, Brainlab, and FSL for data preparation, processing, and analysis and will provide detailed evaluations and presentations of research findings to the laboratory team. Additional responsibilities include maintaining inventory records and overseeing the maintenance, calibration, and routine inspection of laboratory equipment and materials.

The SRA will also assist with the preparation of grant applications and progress reports, the submission and renewal of human subjects IRB protocols, and the drafting and editing of correspondence related to the research program. The ideal candidate must be willing to work a flexible schedule, including day, night, and weekend shifts, as research activities are often coordinated with clinical procedures and patient availability. Prior experience in scientific research, including data analysis, coding, and the development of research workflows, is highly preferred.
