Job summary

Textron Systems, located in New Orleans, LA, is seeking a Sr Welder Lead to guide welding operations in the fabrication department. You will lead welders, ensure quality standards, and coordinate with supervision to meet production goals.

The role requires strong MIG/TIG aluminum welding skills, blueprint reading, and the ability to troubleshoot equipment. A high school diploma or GED is required; rotating shifts and extended hours may apply. U.S. persons per ITAR.

Qualifications

• Five or more years of Aluminum MIG/TIG experience.
• Demonstrated skills based on welding test results.
• Must be able to mirror weld.
• Must be able to certify as a Welder per policies and standards.
• Willingness to work extended hours and rotating shifts.
• Basic computer skills.
• Strong interpersonal skills to partner with HR and supervisors.

Responsibilities

• Aid in providing direction for welders in best practices for MIG/TIG welding thin gauge aluminum.
• Self-inspect work to ensure it meets quality requirements and specifications.
• Read blueprints/sketches and perform shop mathematics.
• Identify tools needed for the assigned task.
• Troubleshoot tools and welding equipment.
• Understand and utilize Engineering drawings, shop orders and written/verbal instructions.
• Maintain high accuracy, efficiency and safety; ensure quality standards are met.
• Perform other duties including welding on demand when required by business needs.

About This Role

A Sr Welder Lead under the direction of a Production Supervisor, leads and directs welding activities and ensures quality standards are met in the welding department.

Responsibilities

• Aid in providing direction for welders in the following areas


• a. Best practices for MIG / TIG welding thin gauge aluminum


• b. How to self-inspect work performed to ensure that work meets the Quality requirements and specifications.


• c. How to read blueprints/ sketches and use shop mathematics


• d. How to identify tools needed for the assigned task


• e. How to troubleshoot tools and welding equipment


• f. How to understand and utilize Engineering drawings, sketches, shop orders and written and verbal instructions


• g. Maintains high level of accuracy, efficiency and safety, ensure quality standards are met


• Performs other job related duties as assigned by management; This may include welding on the craft when business needs require it.

Education:

High school graduate or GED certificate.

Qualifications

• Five (5) plus years of Aluminum MIG / TIG experience.


• Demonstrated skills based on the results of the welding test


• Must be able to mirror weld


• Must be able to certify as a Welder in accordance with M&L policies and standards


• Willingness and flexibility to work extended hours as needed to accomplish the task or work with little or no prior notification


• Must be willing to work rotating shifts


• Basic computer skills


• Strong interpersonal skills; the ability to understand people-related issues, provide counsel and partner with HR and supervisors
