Job summary

Textron Systems is seeking a Sr Welder in Slidell, LA to perform complex welding of ballistic steel in all positions, including overhead. You will read drawings, certify welds, and pass RT/PT/NDt tests while working in tight spaces and on varied vehicle structures.

The role requires the ability to lift heavy parts, operate power tools, and climb on ladders or vehicle frames. Extended hours may be needed to meet production goals.

Qualifications

• Must read drawings and weld symbols.
• Able to certify as Welder per policies and standards.
• Willing to work extended hours as needed.
• Experience welding in all positions and testing (RT/PT/NDt).

Responsibilities

• Weld ballistic steel in all positions, including overhead and kneeling.
• Pass RT, PT and NDT testing as required.
• Climb on bulkheads, ladders and roof areas during welding.
• Operate cranes, forklifts and power tools safely.

About This Role

We believe people should love what they do - as a Sr Welder, you will be responsible for:

• Welding of Ballistic Steel materials in all positions. Must be able to work from standing, sitting, lying and kneeling positions. Some work must be accomplished with the use of mirror welding.
• Some work will have to pass RT, PT, and NDT type testing.
• Climbing on and over bulkheads, up and down ladders.
• Tack welding (kneeling, standing, sitting, lying, overhead burning of steel, dragging torch line)
• Use of jacks, porta-powers and come-a longs; some of which can weigh as much as 25 lbs.
• Lifting of material and tools (jacks, porta-powers, come-a longs, etc. Also loading and unloading of parts.
• Crawling through vehicle on top of floor plates and through hatch/door openings.
• Bending and twisting of your body as needed to get into different compartments.
• Operation of cranes and forklifts.
• Use of power tools (gougers, skill saws, cut saws, grinders). All require two hands on tools to operate in safe manner
• Walking on top of vehicle roof and bottom plates when position in the rollover fixture to achieve welding on a flat.
• Need to be able to work with your hands.

QualificationsQualifications

• Two-Three (2-3) plus years of GMAW, FCAW and GTAW experience needed.
• Demonstrated skills based on the results of the welding test.
• Must be able to weld in all positions.
• Must be able to certify as a Welder in accordance with M&L Policies/Procedures and Weld Standards.
• Willingness and flexibility to work extended hours as needed to accomplish the task or work with little or no prior notification.
• Must be able to read drawings, must know basic weld symbols and know how to use fillet weld gauges.

Education Requirements:

• High school diploma or GED certificate

Flexing and twisting of the trunk and other awkward postures are occasionally required.Dexterity : Must have a good dexterity and frequently use one and two hands throughout the work period for hand tools and handling materials.Cardiorespiratory Demand : Must have sufficient cardiorespiratory fitness to be able to perform medium work involving constant standing and walking, material handling and performing work in a hot, humid environment.General Physical Activities : Include standing, walking, sitting, stooping, kneeling, squatting, body twisting, sense of touch, manual dexterity, speaking clearly, seeing distant/reading, reaching, hearing, depth perception, color vision, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, climbing ladders, climbing stairs and balancing. Physical Demand Level - Medium : Must be able to perform medium physical labor as classified by the United States Department of Labor. Physical demands typically involve lifting, carrying, pushing and pulling not to exceed 60 lbs.
