Job summary

Abacus Technology Corporation is seeking a Unified Communications Engineer to provide expert support for voice and UC systems at Hanscom AFB. You will join a team designing, implementing, and maintaining enterprise telephony per AF standards, ensuring availability and security across the voice infrastructure.

Responsibilities include planning voice environments, configuring Avaya Aura components, SBCs, SIP/H.323, and reviewing capacity and performance metrics.

Qualifications

Overview

Abacus Technology is seeking a Unified Communications (UC) Engineer to provide technical support for strategic network and information services at Hanscom AFB. This is a full-time position.

Responsibilities

Work with a team of UC engineers responsible for designing, managing, and implementing voice solutions per AF enterprise standards.

Assist in planning of voice environments for internal customers, develop and review procedures for voice platform in relation to capacity planning, performance, reliability and security.

Design, install, configure, and troubleshoot voice infrastructure and provide customer support for voice related services.

Install, upgrade, operate, maintain, and configure all equipment/firmware/software required to ensure availability of all identified voice services in accordance with AF certification and accreditation and information assurance standards.

Work with vendors, evaluate vendor hardware, software and communications products and make recommendations according to customer needs.

Interface with distributed organizational Voice Responsible Officers, conduct and attend planning meetings, review existing and projected voice line counts and assignments, survey communication room and telephony backboard terminations and cross-connects, and creation and updates of notional voice line cut-sheets for engineering capacity planning and processing detailed cut sheets.

Qualifications

8+ years experience in unified communications. Bachelor's degree in a related field. Additional years of experience may be substituted for degree requirements. Must be Security+ certified. In-depth hands-on experience of configuring/managing/ troubleshooting Avaya Aura product suite (Communication managers/Session Managers/System managers, Voice Mail Servers, Media/Utility Servers). Experience of configuring/managing/troubleshooting Session Border Controllers (SBCs), CAIRS E-911, Sonexis, vIPers, and T-Metrics ACD. Experience troubleshooting SIP-based sessions across internal, service provider, and external networks. Strong network debugging and troubleshooting skills. Create and maintain operational procedures, topology maps using Visio. Experience with databases, Windows servers and Linux based operating systems or appliances. Extensive hands-on experience in designing enterprise telephony solutions that will increase performance and flexibility to existing converged Gigabit Ethernet network infrastructure in accordance with AF UC policies and standards. Able to use packet capture and protocol analysis tools and techniques. Strong working knowledge of Telecom, including ISDN/T-1, Voice Protection Systems and IP address Management/DHCP, DNS. Strong working knowledge of associated telephony/VoIP standards and protocols such as SIP and H.323. Able to research technical issues and develop solutions using strong attention to detail. Must have excellent analytical, organizational, critical thinking, and project management skills. Must have strong communication skills. Must be self-motivated and have the ability to work effectively in a team environment. Must be able to lift and carry 50+ lbs when needed. Able to support emergency operations on an as needed basis 24/7 and weekend work may be required as project or issues warrant. Must be a US citizen and hold a current Secret clearance.
