Job summary

Supermicro Computer is seeking a skilled Sr. Thermal Engineer to own the thermal architecture, design, analysis, and validation of cooling technologies for networking servers and data storage products.

The role involves leading liquid and air cooling development, performing simulations and testing, and collaborating with mechanical, chassis, and system teams to optimize performance and reliability in enterprise electronics.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor or Master in mechanical or aerospace engineering with 8+ years IT/server cooling experience.
  • Experience as a thermal/mechanical/validation engineer in computer or electronics cooling.
  • Experience running CFD thermal/cooling simulations (Icepak or FloTHERM).
  • Experience with liquid cooling solutions including coldplate/manifold design.
  • Hands-on work with heat sinks, air shrouds/fan ducts and cooling components.
  • Experience in system-level thermal testing including thermocouple installs and data acquisition.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and communicate effectively in a fast-paced environment.

  • Conceptualize and develop Liquid/Air cooling solutions for servers, storages, and workstations.
  • Collaborate with motherboard, chassis, power supply, and system teams to optimize layouts.
  • Validate thermal compliance with industry standards.
  • Summarize thermal data for engineers, vendors, and customers.
  • Investigate new cooling techniques to advance thermal management.
  • Interface with manufacturers and vendors for cooling solution improvements.
  • Provide thermal support from component to rack level.

Job Summary:

Supermicro Computer is seeking a skilled and experienced candidate to take on the responsibilities of Sr. Thermal Engineer. The position will be responsible for the thermal architecture, design, analysis, and validation of thermal technologies (include Liquid Cooling and air cooling technologies) within networking server and data storage products. The role utilizes and champions a design process based on estimating, simulating, and testing the thermal performance of new products and architectures. The ideal candidate will have outstanding leadership skill to lead the junior engineer and possess strong fundamental background in heat transfer, fluid dynamics, and the implementation of thermal solutions in enterprise electronics.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Conceptualize, plan, and execute the design and development of Liquid/Air cooling solutions for servers, storages, and workstations

  • Collaborate with motherboard, chassis, power supply, and system teams to optimize system layout and component placement

  • Validate thermal compliance of systems and components with regards to industry standards

  • Summarize and present thermal/cooling technical data to engineering teams, vendors, and customers

  • Investigate and identify new techniques to advance cooling schemes and thermal managements

  • Interface with contract manufacturers and vendors for cooling solution developments and improvements

  • Provide thermal/cooling technical supports from component to rack level


Qualifications:


  • Bachelor or Master's degree in mechanical or Aerospace engineering, or equivalent training with minimum 8+ years direct IT/server industry experience is preferred

  • Experience working as a thermal, mechanical, or validation engineer in computer or electronics cooling development is strongly desirable

  • Experience running CFD thermal/cooling simulation software (Icepak or FloTHERM)

  • Experience of liquid cooling solution include coldplate/manifold design

  • Hands-on experiences working with heat sink, air shroud/fan duct designs and cooling fan/blower components

  • Hands-on experiences in computer system level thermal testing or validation, including thermocouple installations, automated data acquisitions, and related lab equipment operations

  • Experience running stress programs and scripts under Windows and Linux environments

  • Ability to handle multiple projects and make significant progress in timely manner simultaneously

  • Strong communication skill, able to work efficiently in a team and fast-paced environment


Salary Range

$155,000 - $175,000


The salary offered will depend on several factors, including your location, level, education, training, specific skills, years of experience, and comparison to other employees already in this role. In addition to a comprehensive benefits package, candidates may be eligible for other forms of compensation, such as participation in bonus and equity award programs.
