Senior Technical Accountant

About the role
Are you an accounting professional who thrives on solving complex technical challenges and translating accounting guidance into actionable insights? The Senior Technical Accountant plays a critical role within the finance organization, leading technical accounting research, financial reporting, and the development of accounting policies that ensure compliance with U.S. GAAP. Based in our Irvine office on a hybrid basis, you’ll partner across the business on high-impact transactions, prepare technical accounting analyses, and shape accounting conclusions that support strategic decision-making. Your work will directly influence financial reporting, operational execution, and the Company’s continued growth.
Responsibilities
- Perform technical accounting research and analysis on complex transactions in accordance with U.S. GAAP, including ASC 606 (Revenue Recognition), ASC 842 (Leases), ASC 805 (Business Combinations), and ASC 810 (Consolidation).
- Develop, document, and maintain the Company’s accounting policies, ensuring consistency and alignment with authoritative guidance and industry practices.
- Prepare detailed accounting memorandums documenting key judgments, conclusions, and supporting guidance.
- Interpret and apply accounting standards to new or non-routine transactions, providing practical, well-reasoned recommendations.
- Monitor emerging accounting guidance and assess potential impacts on the Company.
- Develop and maintain accounting models to support complex accounting conclusions, including revenue allocation, lease accounting, purchase accounting, and consolidation frameworks.
- Analyze financial impacts of strategic transactions, including acquisitions, joint ventures, and contract modifications.
- Partner with FP&A and Finance leadership to assess accounting implications and ensure alignment with financial forecasts.
- Collaborate closely with Legal, FP&A, Corporate Development, Operations, and other stakeholders to evaluate business transactions and provide accounting guidance early in the process.
- Translate technical accounting requirements into clear business guidance to support decision‑making and execution.
- Support contract reviews, deal structuring, and transaction planning to ensure appropriate accounting outcomes.
- Support the preparation and review of technical accounting disclosures within financial statements.
- Work closely with external auditors to support technical accounting conclusions and provide required documentation.
- Assist in ensuring consistency of accounting applications across the organization and strengthening internal controls over financial reporting.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA strongly preferred.
- 3–5+ years of experience in technical accounting, audit, or accounting policy.
- Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP, particularly ASC 606 and ASC 842; working knowledge of ASC 805 and ASC 810.
- Experience preparing technical accounting memorandums and supporting audit reviews.
- Advanced analytical and problem‑solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex guidance.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to influence cross‑functional stakeholders.
- High attention to detail, intellectual curiosity, and commitment to quality.
