Collins Aerospace in Cedar Rapids, IA is seeking a Senior Systems Safety Engineer to join our Reliability, Maintainability, and System Safety team. You will ensure avionics and electric power systems are safe, reliable, and ready for today’s challenges in commercial aviation.

You will influence system design decisions, guide critical safety milestones, and collaborate with customers and engineers to deliver products that pilots and operators trust daily. Relocation assistance is available.

Qualifications

• University degree required with 5+ years experience, or advanced degree with 3+ years.
• Experience in aircraft systems (avionics, electric power) or safety/reliability engineering.
• Familiarity with ARP4761, ARP4754A, DO-254/178B/C is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform ARP4761-based safety assessments (FHAs, PSSAs, SSAs).
• Define system safety requirements with hardware/software teams.
• Review design docs for safety-critical equipment and peer analyses.
• Collaborate with customers and stakeholders to develop safety plans.

Collins Aerospace is seeking a passionate and experienced Senior Systems Safety Engineer to join our Reliability, Maintainability, and System Safety team. In this role, you’ll help ensure that the avionics (primary) and electric power (secondary) systems serving our commercial aerospace customers are not only cutting-edge, but safe, reliable, and ready for the challenges of modern aviation.

This role will be worked onsite in Cedar Rapids, IA. Relocation assistance is available.

What You Will Do:

• Perform civil safety assessment process in accordance with ARP4761. Including (but not limited to): Functional Hazard Assessments (FHAs), Preliminary System Safety Assessments (PSSAs), System Safety Assessments (SSAs), Fault Tree Analysis (FTAs), Common Mode Analyses (CMAs)
• Support systems, hardware, and software engineering teams in defining system safety requirements during development activity
• Review of design and development documentation for safety critical equipment
• Review analysis of peer safety engineers
• Apprentice under group's Technical Lead
• Accountable to team members and organizational leadership for committed work and responsibilities
• Develop and maintain expertise in assigned areas (program, function, process, technology, etc.)
• Collaborate with customers, stakeholders, and organizational leaders to develop plans
• Be a recognized technical expert in system safety

Qualifications You Must Have:

• Typically requires a University Degree and minimum 5 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years of experience
• Experience in aircraft systems (avionics, electric power, etc.) or reliability, safety engineering

Qualifications We Prefer:

• Experience with CAFTA or similar Fault Tree analysis tools
• Basic knowledge of ARP4761, ARP4754A, DO-254, DO-178B/C, DO-297
• Experience preparing and presenting technical information to peers, all levels of internal management, and to external customers
• Experience coordinating projects and complex engineering activities
• Basic knowledge Experience in reliability engineering theory
• Verbal and written communication skills, including technical writing and presenting to peers, leadership, and customers

The salary range for this role is 86,800 USD - 165,200 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels.
