Job description

Position Summary

The Sr Systems Engineer is responsible for motion control system engineering design and controls development work for various applications in the off‑highway equipment market and U.S. defense industry. The role includes initiating, developing and validating motion control systems on target market applications and applying appropriate technology to meet project goals.

Scope/Supervision And Interaction

Position is responsible for initiating and developing motion control system design concepts to meet project goals such as cost objectives, schedule requirements and defined performance requirements while validating machine parameters and criteria. Regularly serves as a consultant and resource for the targeted customer base on topics related to the motion control industry, including hydraulics, pneumatics, and electromechanical solutions.

Essential Functions
  • Layout, design and create hydraulic, pneumatic and electrical drawings via CAD systems.
  • Develop control architectures for advanced motion control systems or subsystems utilizing various control strategies based on project requirement goals and with electronic control modules when necessary.
  • Perform mathematical modeling and simulation for hydraulic systems using computer‑aided tools.
  • Develop test plans for system/subsystems and perform accelerated performance testing of hydraulic system and components on prototype builds.
  • Monitor prototype builds and assure proper assembly and functionality.
  • Review, analyze and report on system performance compliance via test reports, spec sheets, etc. Develop action plans to meet compliance if necessary.
  • Write work instructions for prototype and test technicians. Capable of working in a lab environment as required to complete prototype build / testing.
  • Provide leadership and coordination to engineering team. Work with a multi‑functional team to develop cost‑effective, reliable, and easy‑to‑manufacture systems / sub‑systems.
  • Define and document system descriptions and validation processes, including required embedded traceability, necessary to achieve acceptance. Develop predictive models that satisfactorily simulate and verify system performance.
  • Develop system interface, maintenance, and training approaches and documentation including functional diagrams, schematics, interface control documents, reports of performance, function, safety, and reliability requirements analysis, system function, and/or existing technology/manufacturing capability.
  • Provide technical system information affecting long‑range plant and product engineering planning. Communicate with customers to identify new business opportunities, present Parker systems capabilities, and clarify customers’ technical requirements. Write technical proposals for customers by reviewing and interpreting system requirements.
  • Lead or participate in studies to evaluate or determine feasibility of new or modified equipment and related systems considering technical and economic factors, available resources, time constraints, and customer impact. Present study results and recommendations to appropriate people.
  • Investigate pertinent system design factors such as function, performance, availability of materials and equipment, interchangeability, replaceability, strength‑weight efficiency, contractual specification requirements, determining optimum solutions and implementing recommendations.
  • Prepare or direct preparation of system layout, detailed drawings, and schematics by coordinating with engineering design, interpreting customer and functional requirements, or by using engineering computer‑aided design tools and following industry and/or military design standards. Develop critical data and make preliminary system layouts and documentation necessary to present system proposals to customers.
  • Review drawings and layouts to ensure clarity, completeness, form, fit, functionality, and conformity to standards, procedures, and specifications. Identify design errors, omissions, and other deficiencies at the component and system levels, and direct revisions and improvements to engineers or other designers. Lead efforts to obtain industry/governmental agency approval.
  • Refine and enhance products and processes by applying continuous improvement principles and techniques. Recommend actions by analyzing and interpreting data and making comparative analyses. Analyze proposed changes in methods and materials.
  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing technical publications, benchmarking best practices, and/or participating in professional associations.
  • Represent company on high‑level projects and share specialized knowledge with others. Train and mentor less experienced employees. Contribute to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed. Work assignments may include cross‑functional or project team responsibilities (e.g., continuous improvement).
Qualifications

  • Ability to apply broad knowledge of related engineering areas to the area of systems expertise.
  • Knowledge of regulatory compliance requirements related to assigned area.
  • Ability to assess and effectively implement continuous improvement principles and techniques.
  • Ability to solve a wide range of difficult technical problems in imaginative and practical ways and evaluate alternative solutions that may require coordination across multiple teams.
  • Ability to effectively exert influence on the overall team and functional objectives and provide status based on project milestones.
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret highly technical studies and reports.
  • Ability to effectively communicate and present information to team members, team leaders, vendors, other teams, and top management.
  • Ability to provide leadership to others in area of specialization and effectively act as the prime contact on high‑level projects.
Pay, Benefits, Work Schedule
  • Pay Range: $88,000 to $139,850 annually.
  • Participation in Annual Incentive Program.
