Job summary

LightEdge Solutions seeks an experienced IBMi– SR Engineer to design, implement, and support IBM i platforms with strong HA and recovery capabilities. You will manage backups, security, and OS upgrades, while coordinating with NOC and client teams.

A 24/7 on-call rotation is expected, along with hands-on hardware and software support in Power environments. Ideal candidates have 10+ years in IBMi, PowerVM/VIOS, MIMIX or iTerra HA, and solid TCP/IP networking.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of AS/400 system administration and troubleshooting.
• High Availability setup and administration of MIMIX, iTerra, etc.
• PowerVM and VIOS experience is a plus for future designs.
• PowerVC and Live Partition Mobility experience are beneficial.
• Proficient in planning and upgrading OS/400 and HMC/Firmware.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement and support IBM i platform components.
• Maintain OS upgrades and PTF installations.
• Design and maintain IBM i backups using BRMS, FSFC, and VTL.
• Configure BRMS and enterprise tape library architecture (save/restore).
• Configure FSFC, and manage 3rd party replication software (MIMIX/iTerra).
• Provide Tier-3 support for operations and applications teams.
• Interface with vendor support and troubleshoot IBM i systems.
• Maintain security and perform capacity planning for IBM i partitions.
• On-call support for 24/7 operations and hardware maintenance.

LightEdge Solutions is looking for experienced technical individuals for our IBMi– SR Engineer position! As a part of the LightEdge Solutions team, you will be accountable for understanding client business and technical requirements, technical design based on best practices, solution implementation, documentation and communication with your team and client.

Candidate must have at least Ten (10) years hands-on experience in working and supporting IBM Power environment and related networking equipment.Primarily responsible for the maintenance and administration of Power (IBMi servers,, multiple partitions), including message handling, command line utilities, work management, job and print control, device management, system configuration and security setups, backup and restore, client access application, external process and/or file transfer integration, and PTFs management.

Also knowing and supporting TCP/IP networking are required. Experience with replication or HA software like MIMIX or iTera. Power HA etc is required.

Responsibilities

• Design, Implement and support various aspects of the IBMi (iSeries-AS/400) platform
• Maintain and deploy any required operating system upgrades and PTF installations
• Design, maintain IBM iSeries backups utilizing BRMS, FSFC, and VTL
• Knowledge to setup BRMS software and enterprise tape library architecture (save/restore) Expert level
• Knowledge to set up and configure Full System Flash Copy(FSFC) Expert level
• Knowledge of Mimix replication software, or similar software experience, is required
• Knowledge of Help Systems tools such as CCSS, Robot Scheduler, Robot Alert, Nagios or similar software is required
• Perform Tuning and Capacity planning as required for all IBM iSeries Systems/Logical Partitions
• Provide tier-3 support for operations and applications teams where possible
• Assist with various object implementations when requested and adhere to IBM iSeries object level security best practices
• Task oriented, capable of managing multiple work streams while maintaining focus on results
• Provide 3rd tier support for escalated issues regarding customer systems
• Ability to communicate clearly in a large enterprise environment
• Able to support 24/7 on-call-Perform basic hardware maintenance activities
• Understand and recommend IBM OS400 system and user security
• Provide technical support, training and direction to NOC staff and other team members
• Configure partitions and systems using the Hardware Management Console (HMC) through traditional HMC and Virtual HMC
• Interface to vendor support organization(s) and work through problem resolution

Education and Experience

• Knowledge of AS/400 system administration and troubleshooting.
• Knowledge of AS400 High Availability setup, configuration and administration of MIMIX, iTerra, etc
• Experience with PowerVM and VIOS a plus for future designs
• Experience with PowerVC as well as Live partition mobility a plus
• Proficient in LPAR design, build and validation (Logical Partitioning) a plus
• Proficient in planning and upgrading the IBMi operating system (OS/400) and HMC/Firmware
• Proficient in IBM iSeries work management
• Knowledge of network protocols and troubleshooting skills. IBM iSeries TCP/IP configuration and NETSTAT troubleshooting.
• Knowledge of IBMi networked systems, access and security guidelines and procedures.
• Skill in solving technically challenging problems involving IBMi based critical applications and hardware issues.
