Job summary

Motorola Solutions is seeking a skilled Field Engineer/Technical Specialist to provide technical support for advanced communications systems. You will troubleshoot software-driven electronics, optimize RF/broadband architectures, and maintain complex networks.

The role requires strong routing and switching knowledge, prior experience with Motorola systems, and the ability to work with cross-functional teams to meet customer expectations. Local travel within the Arkansas region is expected.

Qualifications

• Must have 3+ years of experience in LMR, RF Systems, Radio Communications, IT Systems, Networking equipment, or ASTRO/SmartZone environments.
• Experience maintaining and troubleshooting complex wired/wireless communications systems.
• Strong ability to analyze trends, document results, and communicate effectively with customers.

Job Description

• Provide technical support of specialized systems and product applications including advanced troubleshooting of software driven electronics, provisioning of communication system infrastructure and performance optimization of RF and Broadband architecture including, but not limited to, legacy analog, advanced digital P25 and data infrastructure.
• Maintain, optimize, test, document and support complex communications systems.
• Perform preventative maintenance routines to ensure proper system operation with focus on trend analysis and documentation of results.
• Develop solutions to difficult technical problems encountered as part of system maintenance, upgrades or support issues.
• Team with Engineering, Project Management, Sales, Customer Service personnel to effectively maintain, optimize and support advanced communication systems which meet or exceed customer expectations.
• Deliver a strong knowledge of wired communications systems, such as local area networks (LAN) and wide area networks (WAN).
• Experience with logging recording systems, RF interfaces, wired/wireless communications systems and networking equipment.
• Unique combinations of both strong multi-site RF communications system and computer/networking skills are required.
• Provide weekly reports of activities and accomplishments.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office products and Motorola Radio Programming Software suite.
• Capable of performing maintenance of server hardware/OS and software infrastructure and troubleshooting to resolve system/application related issues.
• Strong self-management skills and “people” skills to work closely with Motorola’s customers and subcontractor (MSS) community, as well as Motorola Sales, Engineering, Project Management, and Customer Service teams.
• Self-motivated and self-managed to perform the required duties at a distance from direct supervision.
• Able to solve customer problems quickly during stressful situations.
• Working knowledge of various communications test equipment including: Communication System Analyzers Ethernet Link test sets T1 Test Sets TIMS (Transmission Impairment Measurement Set) Digital RF Power Meter.
• Working experience with one or more of the following: Motorola Conventional, SmartNet, and MCC Console systems, Secure Operations and ASTRO A7.x Digital systems and installation procedures.
• Able to demonstrate high level systems expertise and have a minimum of 3+ years of related experience with the following equipment: Motorola Base Stations (GTR series,) Consoles (MCC7500, MCC7100) Channel Banks and T1 Circuits Computer IP Networks and Configuration.
• Experience working with RF Infrastructure Technologies to include Motorola SmartZone, Smartnet, Console Systems, ASTRO Conventional and Trunked equipment is strongly preferred.
• Ideally the individual should have at least one network certification: Network +, Security +, CCNA.

Candidate Requirements

• Must be proficient in computer network installation, configuration and maintenance systems to include cabling, routers, switches, firewalls and bridges.
• Must be capable of performing maintenance of server hardware/OS and software infrastructure and troubleshooting to resolve system/application related issues.
• Total familiarity with the latest technologies and troubleshooting techniques.
• Must have strong knowledge of R.F. systems, such as transmitters, receivers, and antenna networks.
• Must have strong knowledge in standard telephony and dedicated data circuits, as well as knowledge of packet switching techniques.
• Must have experience with one of the following: P25, LMR, Smartnet, SmartZone, RF infrastructure, ASTRO systems, radios and consoles.
• Must have excellent communications skills and always present a professional image.
• Must have a current, valid driver’s license and no traffic violations.
• Must be able to obtain background clearance as required by government customer(s).
• Must be a U.S. citizen with ability to obtain necessary security clearance as required by government contract(s).

Location/Travel

Local travel is required for all planned activities, including potential unplanned events and remediation efforts. MUST live within a commutable distance to the public safety customers located in the state of Arkansas Frequent travel throughout the state with approximately 10% or less overnight travel is required. Position requires on-call rotations to support outages in the territory, 24/7, 365, weekends, holidays. #LI-CC1 This position is subject to working in high security areas governed by the US Department of Justice's "Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) Security Policy" and therefore requires successfully passing a more stringent fingerprint background check administered by Motorola Solutions Inc. customers.

Target Base Salary Range

Target Base Salary Range: $65,000 - $85,000 USD Consistent with Motorola Solutions values and applicable law, we provide the following information to promote pay transparency and equity. Pay within this range varies and depends on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The actual offer will be based on the individual candidate.
