We are seeking a Sr. Systems Administrator whowill perform in accordance with institutional policies andstandards and be responsible for administration, configuration,scripting, maintenance, performance, implementation, security andsupport of various departmental and components of enterprise-wideplatforms, including the installation and testing of new software,operating systems, related utilities/services, and hardwareproducts as well as the integration of new products and /orsoftware release upgrades into the current environment. The Sr.Systems Administrator will conduct systems performance evaluations,monitoring, patch management and security evaluations. The Sr.Systems Administrator analyzes user needs in various computerenvironments (including but not limited to mainframe, Windows, andmid-range) and documents the needs so they can be evaluated forsolutions. The Sr. Systems Administrator will ensure that allsystems environments are maintained in an efficient andcost-effective manner.
This position will provide Information Technologysupport for assigned departments. Will also provide direct supportto Krieger's Senior System Engineer overseeing the school’scomputational/research computing infrastructure, including physicaland virtual Linux servers and clusters. Will lead projects at thedepartment and school levels for the benefit of the largercommunity.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities
Systems Analysis/Design(Environment/Platform)
- Design business, clinical, education, or infrastructuresolutions by meeting with customers to observe and understandcurrent processes and the issue related to those processes. Providewritten documentation and diagrams of findings to share with theclient and other IT colleagues.
- Design solutions that conform to institutional policies,standards, and guidelines, and infrastructure environment and tovendor and industry best practices to deliver a qualityproduct.
- Recommend infrastructure applications that reside between enduser applications and hardware operating systems by working withvendors, customers, and other sources (i.e., open source orInternet2 initiatives) to provide configurable tools to thecustomers.
Install & Configure
- Install and configure server hardware and operating systems byfollowing technical documentation to provide a workingproduct.
- Evaluate, implement, and manage appropriate software andhardware solutions by using best practices for the environment toensure system integrity.
- Install and configure infrastructure applications by followingproduct installation and configuration directions and industry bestpractices to deliver a solution to the customers.
- Implement a schedule of system backups and archive operationsby using best practices for the environment to ensure data/mediarecoverability.
Maintain & Troubleshoot
- Provide server level administration (manage HW/SW, maintenance,upgrades and patches, account maintenance, backups and recoveriesand assist users) by following documented procedures to ensure astable environment.
- Monitor and tune the system by following documentation andprocedures to achieve optimum performance levels.
- Develop scripts and solutions by using departmental standardsto automate systems management.
- Perform system software upgrades including planning andscheduling, testing, and coordination by following documentationand departmental standards to provide a stable product for theenvironment.
- Audit and maintain user access and authorization by followingaccess and authorization documentation to provide for systemsecurity.
- Generate and maintain periodic and ongoing system specificreports by using appropriate tools to assess system performance,integrity and capacity in order to deliver a stable environment tothe users.
- Follow and maintain IT security awareness and best practices byunderstanding security principles as they pertain to environmentssupported in order to deliver secure solutions to customers.
- Utilize system management and monitoring tools and incidenttracking systems by following documentation and standards to detectincidents, take corrective actions, and determine root cause.
- Monitor changes and resolve any incidents by responding toproblems as they occur, by reviewing all processing and output ofthe newly implemented solution, and by proactively ensuring thesolution works successfully in order to satisfy the customerrequirements and to provide a smooth transition to the newsolution.
Project Collaboration & Lifecycle Participation
- Implement changes while adhering to the change managementpolicies and procedures in order to deliver a successful solutionto the customer. Communicate to all parties the nature,significance, and risk factors.
- Evaluate vendor proposals by reviewing requirements for theproduct to select the most appropriate vendor.
- Assist vendors, consultants, and inside Enterprise groups indeveloping applications by meeting with the team on a regular basisto deliver quality products to customers.
- Participate in scheduled project team meetings by attending allmeeting to provide input to the project team.
- Create and maintain documentation by writingaudience-appropriate materials to serve as technical and/or enduser reference.
- Test all changes by using the appropriate test scenarios toensure all delivered solutions work as expected and errors arehandled in a meaningful way. Contribute and make recommendations tothe development of test scenarios.
- Other duties as assigned.
In addition to the duties described above
- Work with researchers to identify and deploy appropriatecomputing technologies.
- Maintain current inventory in KSAS Reftab. Partner withtechnologists throughout KSAS IT on projects with school-wideimpact.
Minimum Qualifications
- Three years of related experience.
- Additional education may substitute for required experience andadditional related experience may substitute for required educationpermitted by the JHU equivalency formula.beyond a high schooldiploma/graduation equivalent, to the extent permitted by the JHUequivalency formula.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience managing endpoint systems using Microsoft SCCM andmacOS environments with JAMF Pro; familiarity with Linux operatingsystems and administration.
- In depth knowledge of the technical environment in the school,with special emphasis on desktop computing, including Windows andMac operating systems, application software, and hardware, and theinterface between client workstations and servers
