Overview

Exagen is a patient-focused and discovery-driven life sciences company dedicated to transforming the care continuum for patients suffering from debilitating and chronic autoimmune diseases. Our goal is to enable rheumatologists to improve care for patients through the differential diagnosis, prognosis, and monitoring of complex autoimmune and autoimmune-related diseases, including lupus and rheumatoid arthritis. By leveraging our proprietary Cell-Bound Complement Activation Products, or CB-CAPs, technology, we help get to the real cause of a patient’s symptoms and guide their journey to improved health.

About the Opportunity:

As part of the Information Services (IS) team, the Sr. Systems Administrator will play a vital role in Exagen's technical success. This position is responsible for all aspects of the Information Services Infrastructure that is utilized for supporting all elements of day-to-day operations.

Location note: This role requires on-site work out of our Carlsbad and Vista locations. Candidates must live within commuting distance.

Responsibilities

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Deliver exceptional customer service by prioritizing the needs of Exagen associates, ensuring high-quality support and timely issue resolution.
  • Lead the recognition, research, isolation, resolution, and follow-up of technical issues, focusing on minimizing downtime and maximizing system availability.
  • Take ownership of server and network management and maintenance, ensuring high availability, security, and performance across all infrastructure environments.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Server and Network Infrastructure Management
    • Manage, maintain, and optimize virtualized environments (VMWare), physical and virtual Windows Servers, SAN storage, switches, WAPs, and firewalls.
    • Administer and secure networking components including LAN/WAN, VPNs, VLANs, Internet/telecom services, and Zero Trust Network Access.
    • Monitor network health, identify performance bottlenecks, and implement corrective actions to ensure seamless connectivity and optimal performance.
    • Execute firmware and software updates across all infrastructure components to maintain compliance and security standards.
  • Directory Services & Cloud Integration
    • Oversee Microsoft Windows and Azure Active Directory, including DNS (public and private), DHCP, GPOs, and scripting automation with PowerShell.
    • Manage and secure hybrid environments utilizing Office 365 (Entra, Exchange, Teams, SharePoint, Endpoint Manager, Security & Compliance).
  • Backup, Recovery, and Business Continuity
    • Implement and maintain enterprise backup strategies, perform monthly restoration procedures, and manage disaster recovery environments with bi-annual testing.
  • Unified Communication and Collaboration Systems
    • Administer UCaaS platforms and video conferencing systems to ensure robust communication services company-wide.
  • Application and Device Management
    • Support and maintain all IT and corporate applications (local and SaaS), along with all connected network devices and endpoints.
  • Compliance and Governance
    • Follow and enforce formal change control processes, coordinating system changes with internal and external teams.
    • Lead the development of system documentation, monitoring routines, and analysis reports to support infrastructure health and performance.
    • Assist in planning and executing internal and external audits (SOX and CLIA), ensuring infrastructure meets regulatory and security standards.
Qualifications
  • Technical Experience
    • Solid understanding of networking (switches, firewalls, VLANs, and routing subnets). Expert Administrator and troubleshooter of Windows Servers, Active Directory, and Exchange in Office 365 environment. Skilled in using PowerShell. Ability to support SharePoint and SQL Servers.
    • Automating manual administrative processes.
  • Education/Experience
    • Bachelor’s degree.
    • Eight (8) years of experience in a fast-paced environment or six (6) years of experience with a managed service provider as a Systems Administrator. Must be self-motivated and have a strong desire to be a contributing member of a team.
  • Language Ability
    • Read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
    • Write routine reports and correspondence.
    • Speak effectively before groups of customers or employees.
  • Reasoning Ability
    • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
    • Ability to interpret a variety of information provided in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Certificates and Licenses
    • MCSE (Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer) preferred, or equivalent certification and/or experience.

Salary range: $110,000 - $130,000
