General Motors (GM) is hiring a Senior Full Stack Software Engineer to design, develop and deploy end-to-end web applications using modern front-end and back-end technologies. You will contribute to architecture, testing, deployment and code reviews while mentoring junior developers.

The role is hybrid, with responsibilities spanning robust REST/GraphQL APIs, microservices, and cloud infrastructure across AWS/Azure/Google Cloud. Strong Java, Spring Boot and React skills are essential.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, or a related field.
  • 7+ years of professional full-stack development experience.
  • Strong front-end skills with HTML5, CSS3 and JavaScript; experience with ReactNative and Angular.
  • Solid back-end expertise in Java, Spring Boot, Quarkus, Hibernate, JPA and SQL.
  • Experience with REST and GraphQL APIs and databases like PostgreSQL, DynamoDB or Redis.
  • Proficiency with Git, CI/CD, cloud platforms (AWS/Azure/Google Cloud) and containerization (Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Familiarity with observability tools (Heap, Datadog) and a microservices architecture; agile mindset.

  • Design, develop and deploy scalable web applications using modern front-end and back-end technologies.
  • Build robust system infrastructure and database solutions; evaluate architectural trade-offs.
  • Write clean, testable code for client and server components; conduct code reviews.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define scope and deliver high-quality software.
  • Troubleshoot performance, ensure security and data protection; participate in QA and deployment.
  • Lead small-to-medium projects and mentor junior developers.

This means the successful candidate is expected to report to Austin TX IT Innovation Center or Warren Michigan 3 days per week (T-W-Th)Who We AreThe CAE, CAT, Battery, Materials & Validation team delivers next-generation IT software solutions that support Vehicle Test Lab operations, physical validations, and proving ground activities. These capabilities enable the engineering, validation, and testing of products to meet engineering requirements, ensure compliance and certification, and fulfill government mandates. We are seeking an experienced Full Stack Senior Software Engineer to join our dynamic team. In this role, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and deploying end-to-end web applications.The RoleThe position is responsible for developing and testing web applications using repeatable industry best practices and in accordance with GM's software development project methodology. The Software Developer will work hands-on designing and writing code based on detailed requirements and system specifications. Developers will specialize in web development software packaging and coding languages.Development activities will include updating existing software and/or developing new web applications to address a specific customer need or to solve a particular business problem. This role will contribute to all development activities including design, coding, testing, certification, documentation and deployment.What You’ll DoDesign and develop scalable web and applications using modern front-end and back-end technologies and cloud infrastructure.Design and develop robust system infrastructure and database solutions.Evaluate architectural trade-offs and apply synchronous and asynchronous design patterns.Write clean, efficient, unit-tested and well-documented code for both client-side and server-side components.Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define project scope and deliver high-quality software solutions.Troubleshoot, debug, and optimize application performance .Ensure application security, data protection, and code quality standards are met.Software testing and quality assurance.Participate in code reviews and mentor junior developers.Stay updated with emerging technologies and industry best practices.Lead small-to-medium scale projects, ensuring alignment with business and engineering goals.What Will Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Software Engineering, or related field7+ years of professional software development experience as a Full Stack EngineerProficiency in front-end technologies: HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript , ReactNative, and AngularStrong knowledge of back-end languages such as Java , Spring Boot, Quarkus, Hibernate, JPA, and SQLExperience working with multi-tier production software systems utilizing HTTP APIs (REST and/or GraphQL) and backend datastores (PostgreSQL and/or DynamoDB, Redis)Familiarity with version control systems (e.g., Git) and CI/CD practicesExperience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud)Knowledge of containerization and orchestration tools (e.g. Kubernetes, Docker, etc.)Familiarity with Observability tools like Heap and/or DatadogFamiliarity with microservices architectureUnderstanding of RESTful API design and implementationExperience with Agile development methodologiesDemonstrated ability to understand the tech stack, debug code and testsPeople Skills:Excellent problem-solving and communication skillsAbility to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment#LI-CK1Gm does not provide immigration-related sponsorship for this role.
