Job summary

General Motors is seeking a Full Stack Senior Software Engineer to design, develop, and deploy end‑to‑end web applications. You will work across front‑end and back‑end technologies, implement scalable cloud solutions, and contribute to architecture decisions.

You will collaborate with cross‑functional teams, mentor junior developers, and lead small‑ to medium‑sized projects while adhering to GM’s software development practices and security standards.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, or a related field.
  • 7+ years of professional software development experience as a Full Stack Engineer.
  • Proficiency in front-end technologies: HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, ReactNative, and Angular.
  • Strong back-end knowledge: Java, Spring Boot, Quarkus, Hibernate, JPA, SQL.
  • Experience with REST/GraphQL APIs and data stores (PostgreSQL, DynamoDB, Redis).
  • Familiarity with Git and CI/CD practices; cloud experience (AWS/Azure/GC).
  • Knowledge of containers (Docker, Kubernetes) and observability tools.
  • Experience with microservices, RESTful API design, and Agile methodologies.
  • Proven ability to debug, write tests, and mentor junior developers.

Who We Are

The CAE, CAT, Battery, Materials & Validation team delivers next-generation IT software solutions that support Vehicle Test Lab operations, physical validations, and proving ground activities. These capabilities enable the engineering, validation, and testing of products to meet engineering requirements, ensure compliance and certification, and fulfill government mandates. We are seeking an experienced Full Stack Senior Software Engineer to join our dynamic team. In this role, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and deploying end-to-end web applications.

The Role

The position is responsible for developing and testing web applications using repeatable industry best practices and in accordance with GM's software development project methodology. The Software Developer will work hands‑on designing and writing code based on detailed requirements and system specifications. Developers will specialize in web development software packaging and coding languages. Development activities will include updating existing software and/or developing new web applications to address a specific customer need or to solve a particular business problem. This role will contribute to all development activities including design, coding, testing, certification, documentation and deployment.

What You’ll Do
  • Design and develop scalable web and applications using modern front‑end and back‑end technologies and cloud infrastructure.
  • Design and develop robust system infrastructure and database solutions.
  • Evaluate architectural trade‑offs and apply synchronous and asynchronous design patterns.
  • Write clean, efficient, unit‑tested and well‑documented code for both client‑side and server‑side components.
  • Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to define project scope and deliver high‑quality software solutions.
  • Troubleshoot, debug, and optimize application performance.
  • Ensure application security, data protection, and code quality standards are met.
  • Software testing and quality assurance.
  • Participate in code reviews and mentor junior developers.
  • Stay updated with emerging technologies and industry best practices.
  • Lead small‑to‑medium scale projects, ensuring alignment with business and engineering goals.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Software Engineering, or related field
  • 7+ years of professional software development experience as a Full Stack Engineer
  • Proficiency in front‑end technologies: HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, ReactNative, and Angular
  • Strong knowledge of back‑end languages such as Java, Spring Boot, Quarkus, Hibernate, JPA, and SQL
  • Experience working with multi‑tier production software systems utilizing HTTP APIs (REST and/or GraphQL) and backend datastores (PostgreSQL and/or DynamoDB, Redis)
  • Familiarity with version control systems (e.g., Git) and CI/CD practices
  • Experience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud)
  • Knowledge of containerization and orchestration tools (e.g. Kubernetes, Docker, etc.)
  • Familiarity with Observability tools like Heap and/or Datadog
  • Familiarity with microservices architecture
  • Understanding of RESTful API design and implementation
  • Experience with Agile development methodologies
  • Demonstrated ability to understand the tech stack, debug code and tests

  • Excellent problem‑solving and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast‑paced environment
