Job summary

Actalent is hiring a Sr Substation Designer for a permanent role based out of Roanoke, Virginia. The designer will produce 2-D drawings and 3-D models of substation features using MicroStation, supervise junior staff, and lead small projects with guidance from engineers.

Responsibilities include creating layouts, diagram sets, cable plans, grounding schemes, and duct banks; using ProjectWise for documentation; coordinating with other departments; and ensuring drawings are checked and validated

Qualifications

• Develop substation design layouts with guidance from a Design Engineer.
• Create 2-D drawings and 3-D models of electrical substation features using MicroStation.
• Modify and update existing models, assemblies, and layouts to reflect design changes.
• Coordinate with other departments involved in design projects.
• Check and validate drawings for the project, as well as those of peers and subordinates.
• Supervise and mentor less experienced designers.

• Use ProjectWise for project documentation to track design modifications and new designs.
• Handle complex projects independently without supervision.
• Coordinate with other departments involved in design projects.
• Supervise and mentor less experienced designers.
• Check and validate drawings for the project, as well as those of peers and subordinates.
• Serve as a Subject Matter Expert in Substation Design.
• Function as project lead on small, less complicated projects with minimal guidance from an engineer.

Job Type & Location

This is a Permanent position based out of Roanoke, Virginia.

Pay And Benefits

The pay range for this position is $35.00 - $50.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
