Job summary

BD, a global medical technology leader, is seeking a technical leader for complex platform development in San Diego. You will own technical strategy, mentor engineers, and drive cross-functional collaboration to deliver high-impact product improvements.

Applicants should have a strong background in engineering, 8+ years in R&D, and experience with design for manufacturing and DFSS. On-site work four days a week is typical, with relocation support as needed.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in an engineering field (Mechanical, Systems, Physics, Electrical, Biomedical, Software) required; Master’s degree or PhD preferred.
• 8+ years of growing responsibility in R&D technical engineering roles or a PhD with 5 years of industry experience; extensive product development experience and quality management systems understanding.
• Regulated industry experience (FDA, Automotive, Industrial, etc.).
• Experience with design for manufacturing, process validation and design transfer.
• Familiarity with Mechatronics Analysis & Design.
• Experience leading a team of multi-disciplinary engineers.
• Project management experience for complex systems.
• Experience in a proven design process (DFSS) over multiple programs.

Job Description

Duties & Responsibilities

• Technical leader for complex medical device platform(s) and important sub-project(s), ranging from smaller sustaining design changes to large product enhancement initiatives

• Responsible for the technical strategy and execution of product development projects.

• Provide technical leadership to direct and in-direct reports, with the ability to deep dive into technical issues.

• Lead in the development of technical project plans, verification and validation planning and execution, and detailed timelines for project execution

• Create Product Development goals which are linked with business priorities and traced to individual engineering responsibilities.

• Implement best-in-class R&D tools, processes & standards within the development platform.

• Drive and lead innovative problem resolution at an accelerated pace.

• Work in a development environment which supports both organic and inorganic development opportunities

• Lead and work with Functional Leaders to assign engineering disciplines to achieve platform goals. Work with other leaders to mentor, develop and performance manage talent assigned to the platform.

• Work with cross-functional engineering managers to ensure proper talent allocations throughout the year

Education & Experience:

• Bachelor of Science in an engineering field (Mechanical, Systems, Physics, Electrical, Biomedical, Software) required. Master's degree or PhD preferred.

• At least 8 years of growing responsibility in R&D technical engineering roles or a PhD in a relevant engineering discipline with 5 years of industry experience, with extensive, successful experience in product development and a clear understanding of quality management systems.

• Regulated industry experience (FDA, Automotive, Industrial, etc.)

• Experience with design for manufacturing, process validation and design transfer

• Familiarity with Mechatronics Analysis & Design.

• Experience leading a team of multi-disciplinary engineers.

• Project management experience for complex systems.

• Experience in a proven design process (e.g. DFSS) over multiple programs.
