Job Description

As part of the global Operations & Technology organization, the Data & Analytics team is focused on data and analytics strategies for the future. We support NBCU’s vast portfolio of brands - from broadcast, cable, news, and sports networks to film studios, world-renowned theme parks and a diverse suite of digital properties. We take pride in providing NBCUniversal with data to advise and shape strategic business decisions.

The Data & Analytics team is looking for a passionate Sr Staff Data Engineer who’s eager to build the next generation of data solutions while collaborating with internal stakeholders, other data engineers, data scientists, and technologists across our main subject areas. The role is ideal if you’re a subject matter expert in designing and developing data models and can balance business acumen with deep technical expertise. Join us to create the extraordinary!

Responsibilities

  • Lead the process of building and designing data models from multiple sources, manipulating data, flat files, and raw information into cohesive data sets for stakeholders to easily use and derive insights.
  • Implement design patterns optimizing performance, cost, security, scale, and user experience.
  • Collaborate with business leaders, engineers, and product managers to understand data needs.
  • Interface with technology teams to extract, load, and transform data using cloud-native data engineering principles.
  • Become a subject matter expert in data engineering technologies and designs.
  • Coach and guide others within the Data & Analytics organization to build scalable pipelines and semantic data models based on foundational principles.
  • Participate in development sprints, demos, retrospectives, releases, and deployments.
  • Build and manage relationships with IT teams to deliver work products to production effectively.
  • Transform large, complex data into digestible insights for technical/non-technical users, optimizing user experience and branding standards.
  • Act as an expert in data modeling methodologies and approaches.
  • Stay updated with latest data standards, systems, and tools.
Qualifications
  • 12+ years of experience in data engineering, warehousing, data modeling, and analytics product development.
  • 10+ years in SQL, data modeling, ETL/ELT, cloud development, and data warehousing.
  • 8+ years in business-facing analytical roles with proven success.
  • 8+ years with data visualization tools (Power BI, Tableau, MicroStrategy, etc.).
  • 8+ years working with data modeling and semantic/virtualization tools (DBT, AtScale, etc.).
  • Knowledge of cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP, Azure.
  • Experience in building data pipelines using Python/SQL or similar languages.
  • Experience with orchestration engines like Airflow, Luigi, etc.
Desired Characteristics
  • Strong storytelling with large datasets.
  • Experience with SQL, data warehouses like Snowflake, Redshift.
  • Exposure to federated query engines (Trino/Starburst).
  • Familiarity with cloud storage solutions (AWS S3, GCS, Azure Data Lake).
  • Media industry knowledge including broadcast, digital, and mobile.
  • Excellent communication skills for technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Proactive problem solver with a positive attitude, integrity, and trustworthiness.
  • Understanding of Agile principles and practices.
