Job summary

Yahoo Mail's Web Engineering group builds a massive web application used by hundreds of millions daily. You will own end-to-end delivery of high-impact Yahoo Mail features, leverage AI-assisted tooling, and optimize the software lifecycle while upholding security and accessibility standards.

The role requires strong front-end expertise (React/JS/TS), CI/CD discipline, and a track record shipping scalable customer-facing web features in a fast, collaborative environment.

Qualifications

• BS in Computer Science or software eng field, or equivalent experience.
• 6+ years of experience on high-scale web applications and front-end tech.
• Strong fundamentals in data structures, algorithms, and web performance.
• Proficiency with React, Node.js, JavaScript/TypeScript and modern CSS.
• Hands-on experience with build/test tooling (Webpack, Jest, Playwright).
• Experience using AI coding assistants integrated into daily workflows.
• Ability to write structured prompts and review AI outputs for secure code.

Responsibilities

• Feature Leadership & Delivery: Define, design, develop, and ship high-impact features for Yahoo Mail web products, owning deliverables end-to-end from technical architecture through production monitoring.
• AI-First Workflow Orchestration: Leverage AI-assisted tools (Cursor, Claude Code) to accelerate web application implementation and refactoring while maintaining strict architectural integrity, code quality, and security standards.
• Lifecycle Optimization: Identify and implement AI-driven efficiencies across the software development lifecycle, replacing manual boilerplate code and repetitive tasks with automated, AI-validated workflows.
• Technical Judgment & Oversight: Balance AI-generated code outputs with rigorous manual review, ensuring correctness, security vulnerability prevention, and adherence to performance and accessibility (a11y) standards.
• High-Scale Impact: Take end-to-end technical ownership of key Yahoo Mail web components, solving complex engineering and user experience challenges at massive scale.
• Quality & Collaboration: Perform thorough, constructive code reviews and collaborate closely with product managers, UX designers, and cross-functional partners to deliver platform improvements and critical fixes.
• Operational Excellence: Write clean, testable code and actively deploy, monitor, and maintain large-scale production web systems distributed across global infrastructure.
• Mentorship & Innovation: Mentor engineers across the squad to elevate technical standards, scale AI-assisted development best practices, and evaluate emerging tooling to keep the team at the technical forefront.

Basic Qualifications

• BS in Computer Science, Software Engineering (or equivalent experience) with 6+ years of professional software engineering experience on high-scale web applications.
• Strong fundamentals in Data Structures, Algorithms, Software Architecture, and Web Performance Optimization.
• Deep technical command of modern web frameworks (React, Node.js, JavaScript/TypeScript) and modern styling methodologies (Atomic CSS, CSS3).
• Solid hands-on experience with modern front-end build and testing tools (Webpack, Redux Toolkit, Storybook, Jest, Playwright, React Testing Library).
• Hands-on proficiency with AI coding assistants (Cursor, Claude Code) integrated into daily software design, development, and debugging workflows.
• Demonstrated ability to write structured prompts, evaluate AI-generated outputs, and iterate on AI suggestions to produce robust, secure production code.
• Active commitment to validating AI-assisted code to prevent security vulnerabilities, hallucinations, edge‑case failures, and performance regressions.
• Strong track record of shipping and operating scalable customer‑facing web features in a CI/CD environment.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills with a collaborative, growth‑oriented mindset.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience developing high-traffic email, messaging, productivity, or calendar web applications.
• Experience building customer‑facing product features powered by LLMs, GenAI APIs, or machine learning pipelines.
• Experience using multiagent workflows.
• Experience in Unix/Linux operating environments and shell scripting.
• Familiarity with mobile web development and responsive web design patterns.
• Experience working in Agile/Scrum or Squad-based engineering structures.
• Familiarity with enterprise observability tools (Splunk, Grafana) and client‑side performance monitoring.
• Practical exposure to accessibility (a11y) standards (WCAG) and internationalization (i18n) for global applications.

The compensation for this position ranges from $128,250.00 - $266,875.00/yr and will vary depending on factors such as your location, skills and experience. The compensation package may also include incentive compensation opportunities in the form of discretionary annual bonus or commissions.
