Job summary

Medtronic is seeking a Senior Software Engineering Manager to lead multiple software teams focused on regulated medical technology. You will drive engineering strategy, ensure quality objectives, and collaborate with product, regulatory, quality, and security stakeholders to deliver high-quality software solutions.

The role requires 7 years of relevant experience with a Bachelor's or 5 years with a Master's, plus at least 5 years of people leadership.

As a Senior Software Engineering Manager, you will provide organizational and technical leadership for multiple software engineering teams developing products and capabilities within a regulated medical technology environment. This role is responsible for building engineering talent, establishing technical direction, driving execution, and partnering with cross-functional stakeholders to deliver high-quality software solutions that support business and portfolio objectives.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Lead multiple software engineering teams and provide direction, coaching, and performance management for engineers, technical leads, and emerging leaders.
  • Establish engineering strategies, development practices, and technical standards that support scalable, secure, and maintainable software solutions.
  • Oversee software development activities across multiple programs, ensuring alignment to quality objectives, delivery commitments, and business priorities.
  • Partner with product, quality, regulatory, clinical, operations, and security stakeholders to define requirements, priorities, and implementation plans.
  • Drive continuous improvement through adoption of modern software engineering practices, automated testing, continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD), and operational excellence initiatives.
  • Manage resource allocation, capacity planning, project dependencies, and risk mitigation activities across teams and programs.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable software development processes, regulatory requirements, and industry standards, including audit and inspection readiness.
  • Communicate program status, key metrics, risks, and strategic recommendations to engineering and business leadership.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree with 7 years of relevant experience OR Master's degree with 5 years of relevant experience.
  • 5 years of people leadership experience.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience leading software development teams through the full software development lifecycle, including planning, delivery, deployment, and maintenance.
  • Experience managing cross-functional initiatives involving engineering, product, quality, or regulatory stakeholders.
  • Experience developing software within a structured quality or regulated development environment.
  • Experience leading multiple software engineering teams, technical leads, or engineering managers.
  • Experience with cloud-based platforms and services, including Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
  • Experience implementing DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, and modern software delivery methodologies.
  • Experience in medical device software development or another highly regulated industry.
  • Knowledge of software lifecycle and quality standards, including International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) 62304 and IEC 82304.

For Baccalaureate degrees earned outside of the United States, a degree that satisfies the requirements of 8 C.F.R.

Salary ranges for U.S (excl. PR) locations (USD):$175,200.00 - $262,800.00

This position is eligible for a short-term incentive called the Medtronic Incentive Plan (MIP).

The base salary range is applicable across the United States, excluding Puerto Rico and specific locations in California. The offered rate complies with federal and local regulations and may vary based on factors such as experience, certification/education, market conditions, and location. Compensation and benefits information pertain solely to candidates hired within the United States (local market compensation and benefits will apply for others).

The following benefits and additional compensation are available to those regular employees who work 20+ hours per week: Health, Dental and vision insurance, Health Savings Account, Healthcare Flexible Spending Account, Life insurance, Long-term disability leave, Dependent daycare spending account, Tuition assistance/reimbursement, and Simple Steps (global well-being program).
