Job summary

Medtronic is seeking a Sr. Software Automation Engineer to develop and verify test automation for cutting-edge medical devices. You will design strategies, build test frameworks, and collaborate with mechanical, electrical, systems, and software engineers to ensure quality.

The role requires strong Python skills, experience in regulated environments, and familiarity with CI/CD, GUI testing, and data processing. This position offers a competitive USD salary and comprehensive benefits in the U.S.

Qualifications

  • BS in Computer Science or engineering with 4+ years relevant experience; or MS with 2+ years; or PhD.
  • Experience with software design, development, debug and test practices.
  • Advanced proficiency with Python including OOP, data structures, file I/O.
  • Experience in software development or testing in medical or regulated industry.
  • Experience developing/testing GUI applications and medical devices.

Responsibilities

  • Develop test automation strategies including requirements traceability matrices, test architecture design (unit/integration/system), and data-driven testing approaches
  • Designing, developing, testing, maintaining and documenting/validating software testing components and applications
  • Participate in all phases of product development as needed such as reviewing requirements, design, usability, risk assessment, and testing execution
  • Contributes to the completion of work group objectives through building relationships and consensus to reach agreements on assignments
  • Interfacing with mechanical, electrical, systems, software and test engineers
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives for test automation infrastructure, CI/CD pipelines, test data management, and testing efficiency metrics
  • Participate in defect tracking and analysis
  • Troubleshoot, debug, maintain, and support existing products
  • Effectively communicate findings, problems and solutions to project teams and stakeholders
  • Collaborate and maintain excellent working relationships with team members and stakeholders
  • May manage projects requiring delegation of work and review of work products
  • Follow Medtronic Navigation product development standards and practices
  • All activities must be performed in compliance with the Quality System.

This position has the responsibility and authority to develop and perform test automation verification & validation activities for software and systems to ensure Medtronic’s cutting-edge medical products meet our user’s needs and our quality and reliability standards. This position requires technical expertise to independently determine and develop approaches to solve complex technical problems with ingenuity and creativity. Work is performed under limited direction.

  • The Sr. Software Automation Engineer is responsible for contributing to the development of test automation for cutting edge products used in the medical field. Specific tasks include:

  • Performs duties in compliance with environmental, health and safety related site rules, policies and governmental regulations.
Must Have
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or Engineering with 4 years of relevant experience OR a Masters Degree with 2 years of relevant experience OR PhD
  • Experience with software design, development, debug and test practices
  • Advanced proficiency with Python including OOP, data structures, file I/O
  • Software development or testing experience in the medical industry or other regulated industry
  • Experience developing and/or testing GUI applications and Medical Devices
Nice to Have
  • Test Automation Architecture: Designing scalable, maintainable test frameworks
  • Strong experience with pytest (markers, fixtures, parametrization) and unittest
  • Experience with Cypress, Jest, JavaScript, Python, JSON, CSV, and Excel file processing using pandas and openpyxl
  • CI/CD Pipelines: Setting up automated test execution and reporting
  • TensorFlow/Machine Learning: Experience with ML libraries for analysis
  • Parallel Processing: Understanding of Python multiprocessing module for CPU-intensive CAD comparison tasks
  • Able to handle multiple tasks/projects and manage priorities.
  • Strong knowledge of modern, iterative software design processes and development practices including agile and test-driven development.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with business and technical stakeholders to help facilitate cross functional communications.
  • Linux/Unix: Comfortable with shell scripting (bash), command-line tools, and virtual environments
  • Project management skills including planning, estimation and requirements management.
  • Understanding of FDA Quality System Regulations (QSR).

Medtronic offers a competitive Salary and flexible Benefits Package

Salary ranges for U.S (excl. PR) locations (USD):$124,800.00 - $187,200.00

This position is eligible for a short-term incentive called the Medtronic Incentive Plan (MIP).

The base salary range is applicable across the United States, excluding Puerto Rico and specific locations in California. The offered rate complies with federal and local regulations and may vary based on factors such as experience, certification/education, market conditions, and location. Compensation and benefits information pertains solely to candidates hired within the United States (local market compensation and benefits will apply for others).

The following benefits and additional compensation are available to those regular employees who work 20+ hours per week: Health, Dental and vision insurance, Health Savings Account, Healthcare Flexible Spending Account, Life insurance, Long-term disability leave, Dependent daycare spending account, Tuition assistance/reimbursement, and Simple Steps (global well-being program).
