Job summary

Angel Studios in the United States is seeking a senior software engineer to help shape the streaming backend. You will own encoding, adaptive bitrate ladders, and dynamic HLS manifest delivery, collaborating with product and operations to ensure reliable delivery.

Candidates bring 6+ years of software experience, expertise in Elixir/Phoenix and modern APIs, and a proactive, ownership-driven mindset to work in a fast-growing team.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of experience as a Software Engineer.
• 4+ years of experience as a Sr. Software Engineer or equivalent.
• Expert knowledge of Elixir/Phoenix, GraphQL/REST/Protobuf/HTTPs.
• Proactive in dynamic environments with diverse users and changing requirements.

Requirements

What You’ll Need

• 6+ years experience writing high-performance reusable code.
• Experience in leveraging code agents and ai models to fast-track outcomes.
• Experience with VOD streaming applications (HLS, Encoding, DRM) is preferred, but not required.
• Expert level knowledge within our chosen tech-stack:
  • Elixir/Phoenix
  • GraphQL/REST/Protobuf/HTTPs
  • RabbitMQ
  • Github Actions/Docker/Kubernetes
  • S3/Postgres/Redis
  • Datadog
• Expertise with DevOps principles (CI/CD, Flow optimization, collaboration, ownership, ect.)
• Passion for careful design & architectural planning that leads to a codebase that is future-prepped and maintainable.
• Experience designing and developing scalable backend systems
• Proactivity working in a dynamic environment with a high variety of users and ever-evolving requirements.

Work environment - When in the main office, expect a comfortable, air-conditioned work environment. Team members are issued their own desks, but the office is an open, shared space and can be fast-paced and occasionally noisy.

Physical demands - Will need to be able to sit or stand at a desk for extended periods of time.

Position type and expected hours of work - Regular full-time, 40 hours per week.

Travel required - No out of state travel anticipated at this time.

Required education and experience

• 6+ years of experience as a Software Engineer
• 4+ years of experience as a Sr. Software Engineer or equivalent

Preferred education and experience

• Familiarity with Angel, the Angel Guild, and our body of work (films, series, and other projects).

Work authorization - Must be authorized to work in the United States.
