Abbott in Lake Forest, IL is seeking a Senior Software Engineer in Test to design and automate tests for informatics products. You will act as an SME for automation, develop test scripts, and help shape the automation strategy across Core Lab divisions.

The Opportunity

Our location in Lake Forest, IL (in Conway Park) currently has an opportunity for a Senior Software Engineer in Test. This position is open with our AlinIQ informatics products in Core Lab Division. This role is on site daily and is not remote. The Sr. Software Engineer in Test (SET) reports into the AlinIQ Product Research and Development organization in Abbott Diagnostics. The SET is responsible for design, development, execution, review and reporting of automated testing for informatics products in compliance with division, corporate, and industry regulation. This position will help build out and maintain our automation tools and test scripts. The SET will serve as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for product research and development teams in automation practices. The role requires the ability to work in an environment that is fast paced, to work independently, and to communicate and collaborate well as part of a team.

What You’ll Work On

• The SET will serve as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for agile product research and development teams in automation practices.
• Design test cases, script, and automate test cases for test-driven development and continuous testing for server, web, cloud, and mobile informatics products in collaboration with scrum-based cross-functional design and development teams.
• Design and perform manual test cases and informal testing.
• Design and maintain test automation framework.
• Identify and perform test case and test case run analysis to determine adequacy of testing, including coverage, boundary, and regression analysis.
• Understand the architecture, hosting infrastructure, interaction with dependency application and complete feature workflow to assess the risks around integration points before developing great test cases.
• Lead testing efforts in automation, design, development, execution, review, and reporting of testing for our AlinIQ informatics products in Core Diagnostics.
• This position will lead the build out and maintenance of our automation tools, test scripts, and provide guidance to other test engineers.
• Provide input to systems and applications developers on testing procedures and requirements, schedules, or potential problems.
• Provide test and automation leadership to testing team, including peer testing automation review, definition of criteria for testing, analyzing test results, and presenting results to developers and other stakeholders.
• Help organize QA activities for the project and delivery of release documentation in conformance with regulatory, security, and privacy standards for all types of testing such as functional, performance, and regression.
• Accountable for estimating, establishing commitments, and meeting incremental deliverables (software builds) according to plans, practices, and quality requirements.
• Able to apply the latest software design and development tools and techniques as required.
• Position includes mentoring junior members of the team and ensuring the correct procedures and processes are being followed for both software quality and compliance.
• Review code diff analysis and develop a robust regression test strategy.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree or an equivalent combination of education and work experience.
• 2+ years of Software Quality Assurance in a regulated industry is required.
• Moderate knowledge of Agile methodologies.
• Moderate level of understanding of test-driven methodologies.
• Demonstrated success in technical proficiency, creativity, and independent thought.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong analytical & problem-solving skills.
• Ability to multi-task and prioritize responsibilities.

Preferred qualifications

• Proficiency in JavaScript or TypeScript.
• At Least 5 years of experience in related work experience.
• Proficiency in SQL, Postgres or other RDBMS technology.
• Experience with BrowserStack/Other Test Automation Tools and Selenium WebDriver preferred.
• Experience in the management of requirements and test cases (JAMA, JIRA and Atlassian toolset experience preferred).
• Experience in Scrum ceremonies.
• Familiarity with design of diagnostic medical devices and/or informatics software is a plus.

• Ability to work on site daily in Lake Forest, IL area as this role is not remote nor is relocation assistance available.

The base pay for this position is $78,000.00 – $156,000.00. In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
