Job summary

Abbott is seeking a Senior Software Integration Test Engineer for its Diagnostics Transfusion Medicine team in Lake County, IL. The role focuses on software integration testing for an automated IVD system used for blood and plasma screening, collaborating across engineering and QA in an Agile SDLC.

You will conduct exploratory tests, develop test plans, report issues, verify fixes, and mentor junior engineers while navigating regulatory requirements and ensuring quality across the product

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree and 6+ years of relevant experience.
  • Experience leading complex system and risk analysis.
  • Ability to lead data-driven decisions and influence stakeholders.
  • Experience with applicable regulations and FDA-regulated environments.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience with systems and/or assay development principles.

Responsibilities

  • Integration testing throughout the Software Development Lifecycle.
  • Collaborate with development teams to ensure tests are executed properly.
  • Develop integration test plans and test scenarios for the target instrument in the lab.
  • Complete software integration activities for user stories within an Agile SDLC.
  • Perform exploratory testing and end-to-end integration with day-to-day scenarios.
  • Investigate and report unexpected events, issues, or software bugs; verify fixes; mentor junior team members.

The Opportunity: Our Diagnostics business in Transfusion currently has an opportunity for a Senior Software Integration Test Engineer. This position is based in our Lake County, IL office. The primary function of this position is to perform software integration testing for an automated IVD system used for blood and plasma screening.

What You’ll Work On
  • Integration testing throughout the Software Development Lifecycle.
  • Heavily interacts with the development teams to ensure the right tests are being executed properly.
  • Collaborate with other Software Integration Test Engineers to develop integration test plans and test scenarios and perform the testing on the target instrument in the lab.
  • Complete software integration activities for the development of user stories within an Agile SDLC process.
  • Perform exploratory testing and system-level end-to-end integration incorporating customer day-to-day scenarios.
  • Investigate and report unexpected events, issues, or software bugs.
  • Verify fixes.
  • Provide mentoring and guidance to junior members of the team

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree and 6+ years of relevant experience
  • Demonstrated experience leading complex system and risk analysis.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and utilize data to make decisions and influence stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated success in technical proficiency, creativity, and independent thought.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience with Systems and /or assay development principles and concepts.
  • Experience in understanding and complying with applicable regulations.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply principles of systems thinking to accelerate performance.
  • Demonstrated Customer Focus, making their needs a primary focus for one's actions
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience performing software integration testing of complex electromechanical systems
  • Regression and Functional Testing is a plus for understanding as it is part of this role.
  • Experience working in the medical industry and an FDA-regulated environment is a plus
  • Hands‑on experience with complex diagnostic medical equipment; experience with Abbott IVD systems is a strong plus.
  • Moderate knowledge of Agile methodologies.
  • Scripting knowledge is a plus including using python and or Bash.

The base pay for this position is $78,000.00 – $156,000.00 In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
