DESCRIPTION
The AWS Graviton Software team is seeking Senior Software Engineers specialized in performance optimization. Graviton is Amazon's strategic Arm-based CPU initiative that delivers superior performance, lower costs, and reduced carbon footprint compared to x86 instances. The role focuses on optimizing open source software like the Linux kernel and internal applications by diagnosing and fixing system-level performance issues such as low throughput and high latency. By contributing these optimizations to open source communities, you'll help ensure both internal and external customer applications perform optimally on Graviton instances while maintaining reliable instance availability and protecting customers from hardware, firmware, and software issues. Join us to lead critical software optimization efforts that power Amazon's cloud infrastructure at scale, driving innovation at the world's leading cloud provider.
Key job responsibilities
As a Graviton Software Developer, you will:
- Optimize software performance for AWS customers and internal services (Lambda, EMR, ElastiCache, RDS) by troubleshooting bottlenecks and improving architectures and algorithms on Graviton.
- Enhance and contribute improvements to Linux kernel and other open source projects.
- Develop frameworks to analyze hardware and software performance. Create automated systems for collecting and analyzing processor, OS, and workload performance data.
- Use performance tools (sysstat, sysctl, perf, Aperf) to identify and resolve software bottlenecks.
- Apply and expand your expertise in system design, implementation, and data analysis.
- If you are already an open source developer or passionate about it, you will be able to continue your passion and contribute back to the community across all those projects.
- Drive AWS roadmap for cost-effective and high-performance computing systems.
- Lead innovation in software that powers the world's largest cloud provider.

About the team
The Graviton Software organization ports, optimizes, and develops software to drive down the cost of adoption and operation for the AWS Graviton instances. We pro-actively improve and upstream open source software, including Linux kernel, operating system, compilers, libraries, and applications. We help internal and external customers to troubleshoot and fix performance bottlenecks that prevent them from using Graviton. We develop tools to automate most of the heavy lifting and maintain publicly available documentation: Graviton Developer Guide on GitHub
