Join a forward-thinking company as a Software Engineer focused on performance optimization within the AWS Graviton Software team. This role offers the opportunity to work on a variety of projects, from enhancing the Linux kernel to optimizing applications in C++ or Rust. You will collaborate with hardware teams, develop profiling tools, and contribute to open source initiatives, all while enjoying a culture that values work-life balance and career growth. If you are passionate about performance engineering and eager to learn, this position is perfect for you.
The AWS Graviton Software team is seeking Software Engineers to drive performance optimization of open source projects, internal services and customer applications. We are looking for engineers who have an interest in performance engineering and/or have relevant experience that can translate to these areas.
The role focuses on optimizing software up and down the stack - from working on the Linux kernel to debugging and optimizing C++ or Rust applications to digging into and optimizing assembly code. This doesn’t mean you have or will have all those skills, but you’ll have a chance to learn from those who do.
We look at performance across all types of applications and workloads: databases, web services, games, video encoding, ML and HPC, and a variety of internal and customer services and applications to ensure they are taking advantage of Graviton’s capabilities. We develop profiling tools to help AWS customers and internal teams debug performance related problems, often working with them directly find root causes and resolve their issues. We work with the hardware teams to benchmark performance and find optimizations in next generation hardware.
As a Graviton Software Developer, you will have the opportunity to learn and contribute on a variety of different projects:
Here at AWS, we embrace our differences. We are committed to furthering our culture of inclusion. We have ten employee-led affinity groups, reaching 40,000 employees in over 190 chapters globally. Amazon’s culture of inclusion is reinforced within our 16 Leadership Principles, which remind team members to seek diverse perspectives, learn and be curious, and earn trust.
Our team puts a high value on work-life balance. It isn’t about how many hours you spend at home or at work; it’s about the flow you establish that brings energy to both parts of your life. We believe striking the right balance between your personal and professional life is critical to life-long happiness and fulfillment. We offer flexibility in working hours and encourage you to find your own balance between your work and personal lives.
Our team is dedicated to supporting new members. We have a broad mix of experience levels and tenures, and we’re building an environment that celebrates knowledge sharing and mentorship. We care about your career growth and strive to assign projects based on what will help each team member develop into a better-rounded professional and enable them to take on more complex tasks in the future.
Annapurna Labs, part of AWS, designed Graviton as a strategic initiative to improve how software works at Amazon scale. Graviton is Amazon's Arm-based CPU initiative that delivers superior performance, lower costs, and reduced carbon footprint compared to x86 instances.
The Graviton Software organization ports, optimizes, and develops software to drive down the cost of adoption and operation for the AWS Graviton instances. We pro-actively improve and upstream open source software, including Linux kernel, operating system, compilers, libraries, and applications. We help internal and external customers to troubleshoot and fix performance bottlenecks that prevent them from using Graviton. We develop tools to automate most of the heavy lifting and maintain publicly available documentation.
