Job summary

Apple is seeking a Java Software Engineer for the LGSS team within IS&T to build scalable, secure solutions that support legal, security, and compliance functions worldwide. You will design, develop, and ship backend services with a focus on high throughput, fault tolerance, and API excellence.

You will collaborate with product managers and engineers to deliver robust cloud-based systems, mentor teammates, and influence architectural decisions while maintaining customer and stakeholder trust

Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional software development experience.
• 4+ years with Java, including concurrency, memory management and performance optimization.
• 4+ years with OOP, data structures, algorithms and GoF patterns.
• 4+ years with additional languages (Go, Python, Ruby) for automation and data processing.
• 4+ years designing and shipping large-scale, secure cloud-based distributed systems.
• 4+ years API design with REST, gRPC, GraphQL and OpenAPI/Swagger.
• 4+ years in messaging systems (Kafka, RabbitMQ, etc.) and CQRS/event sourcing.

Key Responsibilities

Your responsibilities will include all aspects of software development from architecture and system design to implementation and maintenance of both custom-built and packaged solutions. Minimum Qualifications

• 5 years proven experience developing software in a professional capacity. Longer experience preferred.
• 4 years experience with Java, including proficiency in concurrency, memory management, and performance optimization techniques.
• 4 years experience in OOP principles, data structures, algorithms, and software design patterns (e.g. GoF), with a proven focus on implementing testable, maintainable, and extensible backend code.
• 4 years experience with complementary programming languages beyond Java (e.g. Go, Python, Ruby, etc.), including practical use for automation scripting, infrastructure tooling, data processing pipelines, and build system customizations.
• 4 years experience designing, implementing, and shipping high-scale, high-performance, highly available, fault-tolerant, and secure cloud-based distributed systems.
• 4 years experience in API design and implementation, including proficiency in RESTful API principles, gRPC, GraphQL, contract-first design (e.g. OpenAPI/Swagger, Protobuf, etc.), API versioning strategies, gateway patterns, rate limiting, and designing APIs for backward compatibility and long-term evolution.
• 4 years experience with message-driven and event-driven architectures, including proficiency in messaging systems (e.g. Kafka, RabbitMQ, ActiveMQ, etc.), event sourcing, CQRS patterns, and designing reliable asynchronous communication between distributed services.
• B.S. in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent professional work experience.

Preferred Qualifications

• Track record of leading software projects within a team as a tech lead (TL), while mentoring software engineers.
• Hands-on experience leveraging GenAI coding tools (e.g., Claude, Copilot, Codex) to accelerate the software development lifecycle, enhance code quality, and streamline debugging and testing processes.
