About The Role
We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer (Billing and Accounting) with strong backend development experience in billing and accounting applications, preferably in the utility sector. This is a remote position open to candidates across the US and Canada.

As a Senior Software Engineer, you will design new features and maintain our core billing systems, collaborating with talented engineers, QA professionals, and business stakeholders. Your work will drive innovation in utility software, contributing to the financial and operational efficiency of our customers.

Location: Remote (US or Canada)

Salary Range: $80,000 to $110,000 USD

Responsibilities

• Provide technical leadership and mentorship within the backend development team
• Design and implement backend solutions for billing and reporting applications
• Participate in and lead code and design reviews to ensure high-quality standards
• Support QA processes and promote best practices across the team
• Address escalated technical issues from Professional Services, R&D, and Support departments
• Apply accounting best practices, particularly those relevant to utility billing systems
• Assist utility clients with financial auditing processes
• Identify and mitigate risks to maintain project timelines and goals

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, Math, Accounting, or equivalent experience
• 5+ years of backend software development experience
• Strong mathematical and analytical skills
• Experience working in Unix/Linux environments
• Proficiency with either Oracle and PL/SQL or MS SQL Server and Transact-SQL
• Strong communication skills and a collaborative work style
• Ability to work independently in a remote, fast-paced environment
• Demonstrated initiative and high professional standards

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with COBOL programming
• Deep background in backend development for billing and accounting systems
• Familiarity with double-entry accounting and general ledger principles
• Understanding of utility sector operations and requirements
• Experience working directly with clients or end-users
