Sr. Software Development Engineer, Kuiper Government Solutions

Project Kuiper aims to launch a constellation of Low Earth Orbit satellites to provide low-latency, high-speed broadband connectivity to underserved communities worldwide.

This role involves designing, building, and maintaining APIs and interfaces linking Kuiper capabilities to US Government clients such as NASA, DoD, and other security agencies. You will develop software services critical for space safety and sustainability, capable of coordinating with external systems reliably and at scale.

Key Responsibilities

1. Utilize network topology understanding and SDN/network operations experience to develop APIs and interfaces for the Kuiper network team to meet customer needs.
2. Demonstrate interface and architecture capabilities in a simulated test environment.
3. Resolve complex technical issues related to the Kuiper constellation for government clients as part of a multidisciplinary team.
4. Lead internal and vendor teams to develop and deliver software and interface requirements.
5. Ensure system performance meets Kuiper and US Government standards for availability, reliability, security, and interoperability.
6. Communicate project status, risks, and issues effectively to stakeholders and management.
7. Escalate urgent issues and drive resolution promptly.
8. Provide visualizations, document findings, and communicate across teams.

The position is based in Redmond, WA, with US relocation benefits. Candidates must be U.S. Citizens to comply with government requirements.

About the Team

The Kuiper Government Solutions team develops scalable satellite and ground solutions for US and allied government customers.

Basic Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional software development experience.
• Proficiency in at least one programming language.
• Experience in system design, architecture, and scaling.
• Leadership experience as a mentor, tech lead, or engineering manager.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in full SDLC including coding standards, code reviews, source control, build, testing, and operations.
• Bachelor’s degree in computer science or equivalent.
