Job summary

Honda South Carolina Manufacturing is seeking an experienced engineer to lead the development of hardware and software technologies in our infotainment systems, focusing on CAS E and Quality, to enhance comfort, safety and user experience in our vehicles.

You will collaborate with suppliers and internal teams to specify requirements, perform testing, and drive iterative improvements, with onsite work and occasional remote day.

Qualifications

  • Must have a college level Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Electronics Engineering / Mechatronics / Automotive Engineering or a similar STEM field of study.
  • At least 3 years of demonstrable relevant experience in the industry after completion of academics.
  • Must have good understanding of vehicle communication protocols, e.g. CAN, LIN, Ethernet.
  • Python scripting to create test automation tools.
  • Desirable: Familiarity with project management tools / processes, e.g. Jira.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct hands-on hardware/software testing across component configurations to ensure compatibility.
  • Direct the Honda selected suppliers to meet maturation schedule requirements.
  • Write clear and concise reports, presentations and technical documents for development records.
  • Recognize and specify critical functional hardware, software & communication requirements for infotainment components.
  • Develop and issue specification requirements for system components.
  • Analyze and interpret test results, predict performance and failures, provide data.
  • Effectively communicate schedules and status of component functions to stakeholders.
  • Research future infotainment trends and influence architecture and efficient development methods.
  • Propose new functions to meet market requirements and justify improvements.

Job Purpose

This position will lead the development of hardware and software technologies into our vehicles to enhance comfort, safety, and user experience towards creating a top-class infotainment platform with a focus on C.A.S.E. (Connected Autonomous Shared Electrification) and Quality.

Key Accountabilities
  • Electrical Hardware and Software Testing:
    • Perform actual hands-on performance testing that may include developing unique requirements on system components and vehicle testing to guarantee product acceptance. Support maturation testing to cover different configurations of components to ensure all variations work correctly.
  • Supplier Management:
    • Direct the Honda selected suppliers to design and manage the component to maturation schedule requirements.
  • Documentation:
    • Write clear and concise reports, presentations and/or technical documents to make a record of the development activities, communicating directly with Technical Experts.
  • Requirements Capture and Specification Development:
    • Recognize and specify critical functional (hardware, software & communication) requirements for infotainment system components to match customer demands.
    • Develop, write and issue specification requirements for system components.
  • Analysis:
    • Analyze & interpret test results, predict performance/failure and provide required product/design data.
  • Project Management:
    • Effectively communicate the development schedule and report status of component functions to different company areas/departments.
  • Strategic Planning:
    • Research and influence the future path and trends of infotainment system architecture, features/functions, and efficient development methods.
    • Assess the marketplace demands with a competitive viewpoint of infotainment system component requirements.
  • Improvement & Innovation:
    • Propose, develop, and justify any new functions (hardware, electrical, software, HMI, etc.) to meet the market requirements
Qualifications, Experience, And Skills
  • Minimum Educational Qualifications:
    • Must have a college level Bachelors degree in Electrical or Electronics Engineering / Mechatronics / Automotive Engineering or a similar STEM field of study.

Workstyle

This is an onsite job. One remote workday per week may be possible with prior departmental approval.
