Job description

Competitive Salary: $132,000 – $182,000

Lead a Major Operation: Take ownership of a high-volume service center with 90+ drivers, overseeing managers, supervisors, and day-to-day freight operations.

Make an Impact: Step into a senior operational leadership role where you'll have the opportunity to develop teams, improve performance, and directly influence service, productivity, and customer success.

About the Role

Astyra is seeking an experienced Senior Manager, Service Center to lead a large, high-volume freight operation and drive performance across service, productivity, safety, workforce management, and customer satisfaction.

This is a significant operational leadership role overseeing a service center with more than 90 drivers, along with managers, supervisors, and additional operational staff. The ideal candidate brings strong freight industry experience, has successfully led large frontline teams, and understands how to turn operational data into measurable improvements.

You'll have responsibility for the day-to-day performance of the service center while developing the leaders beneath you, managing labor and resources, addressing operational challenges, and ensuring customers receive consistent, high-quality service.

What You'll Do
  • Lead day-to-day service center operations, including a workforce of more than 90 drivers and multiple levels of operational leadership.

  • Oversee managers and supervisors while establishing clear expectations for service, productivity, safety, and performance.

  • Review projected performance plans to ensure appropriate driver, route, and workforce allocation.

  • Analyze planned versus actual performance to identify trends, service failures, root causes, and opportunities for operational improvement.

  • Drive key service metrics, including on-time delivery, successful pickups, claims reduction, productivity, and customer retention.

  • Maintain visibility into dock and freight operations to ensure established procedures and performance standards are consistently followed.

  • Partner with Labor and Human Resources leadership on hiring, employee performance, workforce planning, promotions, and employee relations.

  • Lead and develop managers and supervisors through coaching, performance management, training, and career development.

  • Build and maintain strong customer relationships, proactively addressing service issues and identifying accounts at risk.

  • Partner with Sales to understand customer requirements, service expectations, and opportunities to strengthen or grow business.

  • Manage resources strategically to balance service expectations, labor needs, productivity, and cost.

What We're Looking For
  • Significant leadership experience within the freight, transportation, or LTL industry.

  • Proven experience leading large-scale operations and frontline workforces; experience managing 75+ employees or drivers is strongly preferred.

  • Experience leading through other managers and supervisors rather than solely managing individual contributors.

  • Strong understanding of freight operations, service center performance, labor planning, productivity, and customer service.

  • Experience working in a unionized environment is highly preferred.

  • Demonstrated ability to analyze operational performance and implement corrective action when service or productivity falls below expectations.

  • Strong people leadership skills with experience in performance management, employee development, staffing, and workforce planning.

  • Ability to work a flexible schedule based on operational needs and travel as required.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and operational reporting tools.

  • Bachelor's degree or internationally comparable degree preferred.

  • Must be authorized to work in the United States.

  • Must be located within the geographic area of the position or willing to relocate.
