Job summary

Amazon LEO seeks a Sr. Satellite Hardware Development Engineer to lead the ground gateway modem design from concept through production in Redmond, WA.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or equivalent.
  • 5+ years of hardware engineering experience.
  • 5+ years of experience with schematic tools (Mentor Graphics Xpedition, Cadence OrCad, or Altium).
  • 4+ years of using lab equipment (oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, multi-meters).
  • 3+ years experience in high speed (SERDES) and/or mixed signal PCBA design.

Responsibilities

  • Own the ground gateway gigabit data rate modem design from concept through production.
  • Design and optimize blocks of electronics sub-systems.
  • Design digital circuitry supporting various protocols with cross-team collaboration.
  • Lead and review schematic capture and PCB layout.

Amazon LEO is an initiative to launch a constellation of Low Earth Orbit satellites that will provide low-latency, high-speed broadband connectivity to unserved and underserved communities around the world.

As a Hardware Development Engineer, you will lead the design workstream on some of the most innovative, challenging, and exciting gateway systems in industry. You will engage with an experienced team to conceive and design the gateway aimed at delighting customers with affordable, reliable, high bandwidth connectivity. You will work closely with Amazon LEO's various sub-teams and engage third party suppliers to drive product definition, design, optimization, implementation, and test. The Hardware Engineer will have a complete understanding of how their design changes impact downstream partners such as operations, supply chain, product management, and reliability.

About the team

The Gateway team is responsible for the architecture, design, implementation, validation, qualification, and new product introduction to manufacturing for all satellite and ground gateway assemblies. These systems will meet performance requirements defined by the RF/modem team as well as environmental and reliability requirements defined by the mechanical team. To this end, the gateway team collaborates closely with all the partner teams including silicon, power, mechanical, thermal, modem, RF/Coms system, and SW teams.

Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or equivalent
  • 5+ years of hardware engineering experience
  • 5+ years of experience in using schematic tool (Mentor Graphics Xpedition, Cadence OrCad, or Altium Designer)
  • 4+ years of experience in using lab equipment, including oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and multi-meters

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
