Job summary

TÜV SÜD America Inc. is seeking a Sr. RF/EMC Engineer to lead EMC testing, regulatory compliance, and certification projects for medical, wireless, and consumer products.

You will collaborate with customers, lab teams, project management, and quality to ensure accurate, timely certification outcomes. The role is on-site in San Diego and requires a degree in Electrical Engineering with 5+ years of EMC testing experience, plus proficiency with FCC, CISPR, IEC 61000 series.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or closely related field with 5+ years EMC testing experience, or a Master's with 3+ years experience.
  • Demonstrated experience with FCC, ISED Canada, CISPR, IEC 61000 Series, EN, ANSI C63, and related EMC standards.
  • Strong knowledge of EMC principles including emissions, immunity, shielding, grounding, bonding, filtering, RF measurement techniques.
  • Hands-on experience troubleshooting product compliance issues and operating EMC test instrumentation in a lab.
  • Strong technical writing, data analysis, problem-solving, and customer communication skills.
  • Experience in ISO/IEC 17025-accredited labs is preferred.
  • Experience with test automation tools such as Python, LabVIEW, MATLAB or equivalents.

Responsibilities

  • Perform EMC testing in accordance with FCC, ISED Canada, IEC, EN, CISPR, ANSI C63 and other international requirements.
  • Conduct radiated and conducted emissions testing and immunity testing (ESD, EFT/Burst, Surge, Radiated Immunity, Conducted Immunity, Voltage Dips, Interruptions).
  • Develop and review test plans, procedures, configurations, technical reports, and compliance documentation.
  • Analyze test results, troubleshoot failures, identify root causes, and provide technical recommendations to customers.
  • Configure and operate EMC laboratory equipment (receivers, spectrum analyzers, oscilloscopes, signal generators, RF amplifiers, antennas, LISNs, CDNs, ESD simulators, immunity systems).
  • Support ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation requirements (quality procedures, method validation, measurement uncertainty, audits, corrective actions).
  • Provide technical guidance and mentoring to engineers and technicians; support process improvements and development of new EMC capabilities.

At TÜV SÜD, the Sr. RF/EMC Engineer provides technical expertise and leadership for electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) testing, regulatory compliance, and certification programs across commercial, industrial, medical, wireless, and consumer products. In this role, you will support complex compliance projects and collaborate with customers, laboratory teams, project management, quality, and commercial teams to deliver accurate, timely certification outcomes.

Your Tasks
  • Perform EMC testing in accordance with applicable FCC, ISED Canada, IEC, EN, CISPR, ANSI C63, and other international regulatory requirements.

Your Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Telecommunications Engineering, or a closely related field with at least 5 years of relevant EMC testing experience, or a Master's degree with at least 3 years of relevant experience.
  • Demonstrated experience with FCC, ISED Canada, CISPR, IEC 61000 Series, EN, ANSI C63, and related EMC standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Strong knowledge of EMC principles, including emissions, immunity, shielding, grounding, bonding, filtering, and RF measurement techniques.

Additional Information
  • The anticipated annual base pay range for this full-time position is $90,000-$140,000. Actual base pay will be determined based on factors including relevant experience, technical expertise, education, qualifications, geographic location, and internal equity.
  • Work model: On-site in San Diego, California.
  • Some domestic travel may be required based on customer and business needs.
