Job summary

VIAVI Solutions is seeking an experienced Optical Coatings Engineer in Santa Rosa, CA to design and implement optical interference filters and coatings for diverse applications, from consumer electronics to aerospace. The role involves materials development, vacuum coating processes, and close collaboration with customers to meet specifications. Candidates should have a B.S.

in a relevant field, 5+ years of experience, and strong Excel/Office skills. US person required per ITAR.

Qualifications

Duties & Responsibilities:

• Design and implement optical interference filters which meet customer requirements in a wide range of applications, such as consumer electronics, bio medical devices, gas monitoring, fluorescence microscopy, astronomy, light sensing, projection display, quantum optics.
• Develop and/or improve materials and processes for manufacturing of optical coatings.
• The assignment will encompass optical coating design, substrate preparation, substrate / wafer handling, vacuum-based coating processes such as sputter deposition, post-coating optical metrology, and other processes.
• Improve understanding of interaction between different coating materials.
• Interacting with customers to understand their requirements and develop optical coatings / filters meeting their needs in a timely manner.

Pre-Requisites / Skills / Experience Requirements:

Required Qualifications:

• Minimum B.S. in Material Science, Physical, Electrical, or Optical Engineering or related field.

Additional / Desired Qualifications:

• Graduate / Advanced degree preferred, or at least 10 year experience
• Expertise in Design of Experiment (DOE), Statistical Process Control (SPC) and Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (FMEA)
• Familiar with a Cleanroom work environment
