Job Description

PRIMARY FUNCTION:

The Senior Research Investigator (SRI) will serve as a high-level leader within the laboratory, overseeing all fundamental activities related to sponsored scientific research in an academic setting. The SRI will support multiple research projects collaboratively, execute key projects, and lead the scientific management of laboratory personnel. Responsibilities include determining project complexity, setting priorities, and supervising daily experimental procedures.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Develop strategic plans to define project objectives, execute the project mission, and adhere to timelines.
  2. Design and implement experiments, and delegate procedures to laboratory staff as needed.
  3. Train and supervise staff in technical procedures, data management, and SOP adherence, including biosafety compliance. Implement changes to improve rigor and reproducibility.
  4. Monitor research progress and data quality, ensuring results are timely and high-quality, in compliance with regulations.
  5. Prepare oral and written reports, communicate findings through posters, presentations, abstracts, and manuscripts. Assist with grant writing and submission, including generating publication-quality figures and editing technical sections.
  6. Engage professionally with co-workers, visitors, and staff, reflecting the values of Jefferson.

EDUCATIONAL/TRAINING REQUIREMENTS: MD or Ph.D. in Biology, Biomedical Sciences, or a related field.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: At least 5 years of lab management experience with proven expertise in immunology and hands-on experience with flow cytometry, including data analysis and interpretation.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Strong technical, analytical, management, organizational, communication, writing, and interpersonal skills. Solid knowledge of scientific principles and familiarity with laboratory equipment.
