Job summary

Westinghouse Electric Company is seeking a Senior Radiation Protection Technician to support radiological work at the Waltz Mill site in Madison, PA. You will perform radiological surveys, manage radioactive materials and data, conduct air monitoring, and assist with release surveys and incident responses.

You will report to the Supervisor of RSO and RP, must have a High School Diploma, 5 years of relevant experience, the ability to lift 40 pounds, and pass medical and respirator training.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent with relevant education/experience in radiation protection/health physics.
• 5 years of radiological measurement, radioisotope handling, and radiation monitoring experience; 1 year as a qualified Radiation Control/Health Physics Technician.
• Ability to apply advanced radiation safety and measurement principles in general assignments.
• Ability to work independently and in a team on radiation protection programs.

As a Senior Radiation Protection Technician, you will support coverage of radiological work at the Westinghouse Waltz Mill Site. Work includes surveillance of radiological work areas, radioactive material management, data/records management, radiological sample collection/analysis, air monitoring and sampling.

You will report to the Supervisor of RSO and RP and will be based at our Waltz Mill facility in Madison, PA.

Key Responsibilities:

• Perform radiation control work activities in support of maintenance, decontamination, hazardous material shipping, and compliance operations.
• Perform radiological surveys (radiation, contamination, and airborne radioactivity) of work areas and generate associated documents.
• Perform release surveys of materials, equipment and property from areas controlled for radiological purposes to uncontrolled areas.
• Evaluate radiological conditions within various types of facilities and post areas and items controlled for radiological purposes.
• Conduct and/or support assessments, audits and other measures needed regarding radiological incidents. Respond to contaminated personnel/areas and other radiological incidents and emergencies and participate in corrective action.
• Provide radiological support during preparation, packaging, and shipment/transfer of radioactive materials and wastes.
  

Qualifications:

• High School Diploma (or equivalent) and relevant combination of education and experience, in which advanced technical concepts and principles are acquired in the field of radiation protection/health physics, may be considered as well
• 5 years of relevant experience in radiation measurement, radioisotope handling and radiation monitoring, including 1 year as a qualified Radiation Control Technician or Health Physics Technician. Alternatively, a minimum of two years as a qualified Radiation Control Technician or Health Physics Technician performing radiological job coverage would be considered equivalent to the relevant experience requirement stated above.
• Ability to apply advanced radiation safety, radiation measurement and radioisotope handling principles in general assignments.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a radiation protection team given broad and general program/project directions.
• Must be able to perform the physical requirements of the position including - routinely lift and transport of 40 pounds, frequently bend, stoop, stand and walk for 4-6 hours per day.
• Successfully pass a routine medical examination as well as successfully pass applicable training including Respirator Fit Testing.

We are committed to transparency and equity in all of our people practices. The base salary range for this position, which is dependent upon experience, qualifications, and skills, is estimated to be $49,799.07 to $76,026.25 per year.
