Job summary

Glanbia Nutritionals, Inc. seeks a senior leader to coordinate Cheese Research and Development and manage the Cheese Innovation Center on-site in Twin Falls, Idaho.

You will drive long-term research projects, develop new products and processing technologies, and provide a competitive edge through innovation. You will work with universities, customers, and industry partners to translate science into commercially viable cheese products and processes, ensuring safety, quality, and regulatory

Qualifications

• Ph.D. or Masters in food science, dairy science, or related field with 5 years of dairy & cheese product development or R&D experience.
• Experience leading pilot plant operations and managing teams.
• Knowledge of regulatory labeling for cheese products.
• Familiarity with functional ingredients used in food processing.
• Strong data analysis and scientific writing skills.

Responsibilities

• Manage the Cheese Research and Development Scientists and CIC staff.
• Collaborate with Marketing and Sales to identify new markets via value-added products.
• Oversee collaborations with customers, universities, and the food industry to develop new cheese products and processes.
• Develop analytical and process methods to characterize products and enable new manufacturing capabilities.
• Lead PDP processes and provide performance feedback, including disciplinary occurrences.
• Prepare reports on laboratory tests and product development trials with next steps.
• Lead customer projects, design plant trials, and deliver viable solutions.
• Provide technical information to QA and Sales on cheese nutrition and labeling guidelines.

The Opportunity

This position coordinates with sales and marketing for the on-going development of value added products. In addition, this position will manage longer term research projects that will provide new products and processing technologies that provide a competitive edge. This position will manage daily operations of the Cheese Innovation Center (CIC).

Responsibilities

• Manage the Cheese Research and Development Scientists, and CIC staff.
• Work with Marketing and Sales to help customers identify new markets by the development of value added products.
• Oversee collaboration with customers, universities, and the food processing industry to develop new products and processes related to cheese production.
• Develop new analytical and process methods to further characterize existing and new products and to provide new manufacturing capability to the business.
• Develop and apply new theories to Glanbia products/processes, applications to create advanced, innovative new products and processes that drive competitive advantage and market leadership for Glanbia.
• Manage all scheduling and prioritization of activities in the CIC.
• Manage the food safety plan and programs for the pilot plant.
• Oversee the safety programs and training in coordination with EH&S.
• Be a key liaison with academics to summarize and provide updates of information and technology related to strategic issues.
• Perform Glanbia's PDP process and provide feedback periodically on performance, including disciplinary occurrences.
• Prepare reports concerning the results of laboratory tests or product development trials including next steps and impact on key business initiatives.
• Collect, read, compile, utilize and synthesize ideas and methods from existing literature, experts, files and publications.
• Work extensively with customers by leading customer projects, designing customer plant trials, and delivering commercially viable solutions in partnership with customers.
• Provide technical information to quality assurance and sales by providing accurate information related to cheese nutrition and associated labelling guidelines.
• Utilize GPS processes, driving zero losses, and upholds the culture of Glanbia non-negotiables.

The Skills you will bring to the team

• Ph.D. or Masters degree in food science, dairy science or related field, with 5 years of dairy & cheese product development or R&D experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Experience with pilot plant operations and management.
• Familiarity with key vendors who provide functional ingredients used within the food processing industry.
• Knowledge of statistical experimental design.
• Demonstrated analytical experience, and knowledge in cheese and dairy chemistry.
• Demonstrated expert test development knowledge.
• Developed presentation and scientific writing skills.
• Ability to interact with Universities to keep abreast of advancing technologies related to cheese production.
• Familiarity with regulations for the composition and labeling of cheese products.
