Job summary

Glanbia Nutritionals, Inc. in Twin Falls, Idaho seeks an experienced dairy product development scientist to lead on‑going development of value‑added cheese products and processing technologies.

You will support the operations project manager with transitioning new products into production, and collaborate with commercial, procurement, strategy, and insights teams to identify new applications and paths to market.

Qualifications

  • Masters degree or equivalent with dairy/cheese product development or R&D experience
  • Experience with pilot plant operations and management
  • Experience in analytical/microbiological lab; developing testing methods
  • Familiarity with suppliers of ingredients and processing equipment in food industry
  • Statistical experimental design; capable of multiple projects in research/pilot plant
  • Experience with dairy processing and pilot plant research
  • Developed presentation and scientific writing skills
  • Keeping abreast of advancing cheese production technologies

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate commercialization trials in production plant facilities
  • Collaborate with universities, vendors, and customers on product development
  • Develop, coordinate, and supervise research projects in the Cheese Innovation Center
  • Apply new theories to Glanbia products and processes to drive innovation
  • Prepare reports on lab tests and development trials with next steps
  • Synthesize ideas from literature and experts to inform projects
  • Provide technical assistance to Sales/Marketing for product development
  • Engage with equipment vendors and co-manufacturers to enhance product performance
  • Provide technical information on cheese nutrition and labeling guidelines
  • Utilize Glanbia processes for continuous improvement and zero losses

The Opportunity

To develop and carry out projects related to the on‑going development of value‑added products, by developing new products and processing technologies that provide a competitive edge. Support the operations project manager with the transition of new product and processes into actual production settings. Work with commercial, procurement, strategy, and insights groups to find new applications and paths to market for natural cheese.

Responsibilities
  • Coordinate and execute commercialization trials in production plant facilities.
  • Work with universities, vendors, and customers to develop new products, processes and applications related to natural cheese production.
  • Develop, coordinate and supervise research projects in the Cheese Innovation Center (CIC).
  • Develop and apply new theories to Glanbia products/processes, applications to create advanced, innovative new products and processes that drive competitive advantage and market leadership for Glanbia.
  • Prepare reports concerning the results of laboratory tests or product development trials including next steps and impact on key business initiatives.
  • Collect, read, compile, utilize and synthesize ideas and methods from existing literature, experts, files and publications.
  • Ability to work with Sales and Marketing to provide technical assistance for product development and support marketing platforms or products.
  • Ability to work with key equipment vendors and co‑manufacturers to develop new technologies that will enhance product performance or process efficiencies.
  • Provide technical information to quality assurance and sales by providing accurate information related to cheese nutrition and associated labelling guidelines.
  • Utilize Glanbia processes for continuous improvement, driving zero losses, and uphold the culture of Glanbia non‑negotiables.
The Skills you will bring to the team
  • Masters degree in food science, dairy science or related field, with 3 years of dairy & cheese product development or R&D experience, or a Bachelor of Science with 5-7 years experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience with pilot plant operations and management.
  • Experience working in an analytical and or microbiological lab, including developing testing methods.
  • Familiarity with key vendors who provide functional ingredients and processing equipment used within the food processing industry.
  • Statistical experimental design. Ability to design and efficiently execute multiple projects in a research and pilot plant environment.
  • Demonstrated experience with dairy processing and a pilot plant research.
  • Developed presentation and scientific writing skills.
  • Ability to keep abreast of advancing technologies related to cheese production.
