The position follows a 9/80 schedule with full-time onboarding in Richland, WA, then may offer part-time telework flexibility. Travel to project or supplier facilities may be required.

Qualifications

  • Requires a bachelor’s degree in engineering.
  • 8–10 years of relevant professional experience, or 12–14 years total.
  • Ability to obtain DOE badge and pass pre-employment checks.
  • Strong writing, communication, and teamwork skills.
  • Experience with quality assurance programs (NQA-1) and EPC projects.

Responsibilities

  • Review engineering deliverables for quality, compliance, and technical adequacy.
  • Develop and update procedures and guides to meet standards.
  • Lead internal and external quality audits and surveillances.
  • Provide training on procedures, policies, and instructions.
  • Present quality metrics to engineering leadership and customer.
  • Investigate and process condition reports; participate in CRRC meetings.

Salary Range: $105,000 - $160,200 annually (salary range is based on market data; final salary offered is determined by education, experience, and qualifications of the applicant.)

Project Overview

Join us as we make history at the Hanford Vit Plant, known as the Waste Treatment and Immobilization Plant. We are designing and building a one‑of‑a‑kind facility that will turn radioactive and chemical waste left over from World War II and Cold War plutonium production into a form safe for disposal. Your efforts will help protect the nearby Columbia River and the communities, salmon, and wildlife along its shorelines throughout the Northwest.

Sitting at the confluence of the Columbia, Snake and Yakima rivers near two mountain ranges, our community provides access to year‑round outdoor recreation, 300 days of sun a year, more than 200 wineries within a 50‑mile radius, and the amenities of large cities just a three‑hour drive (or short flight) to Seattle and Portland.

Job Summary

This position is for a Senior Quality Engineer who will support the project engineering team to ensure overall quality deliverables associated with this project. This position will support the project as a quality engineer assisting and leading process changes (e.g. procedure/training), internal/external audits, surveillances, coaching engineers on procedural compliance, and working as part of a team troubleshooting issues encountered by the Engineering organization.

Part‑Time Telework: This position is a full‑time role that offers part‑time telework flexibility in the Richland, Washington project office. Upon initial hire and onboarding, the position will require full time presence in the Richland, Washington project office, then may offer part‑time telework flexibility. This position works a 9/80 schedule, offering every other Friday off.

Please be advised that the telework designation of the position may be changed in the future at the discretion of the company or project.

Major Responsibilities
  • Review multiple engineering discipline deliverables for quality, procedure compliance, and technical adequacy.
  • Develop, and coordinate updates to project engineering procedures, instructions, and guides to align with requirements and applicable codes and standards.
  • Serve as a point of contact to answer ad‑hoc procedural and quality‑related questions across engineering.
  • Develop and deliver training on procedures, policies, and instructions.
  • Prepare and present quality metrics and reports to engineering leadership and the customer.
  • Lead, support and participate in internal and external quality audits, surveillances, and management assessments.
  • Investigate, and process proposed/validated condition reports. Represent Engineering at Condition Report Review Committee meetings.
  • Communicate quality issues and lessons learned to the management and engineering team.
  • Lead and support process improvement initiatives.
  • Some travel to project or supplier facilities may be required.
Education & Experience Requirements
  • Requires bachelor's degree in engineering (or international equivalent) and 8‑10 years of relevant professional experience or 12‑14 years of relevant professional work experience.
Required Knowledge and Skills
  • Must be authorized to work and remain in the United States without Bechtel visa sponsorship now or in the future.
  • Must be able to complete and pass a pre‑employment drug screen, physical (if located at the construction site), and background check which includes verification of employment and education.
  • Must be able to obtain a Department of Energy badge for access to the Hanford Site. (Even if teleworking, must still be able to comply with security requirements to obtain a badge.)
  • Non‑U.S. citizens from countries identified by the Department of Energy as posing heightened security concerns - including sensitive countries, state sponsors of terrorism, countries of risk, and other designated countries - are subject to additional security requirements that limit site access.
  • Strong communication, organizational and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to work independently with strong attention to detail.
  • Strong technical writing and editing capability.
  • Demonstrated problem‑solving skills and a can‑do attitude.
  • Ability to interface effectively with technical personnel, project management, and the customer.
  • Experience in quality engineering, engineering design, and EPC project environments.
  • Experience with quality assurance programs (such as NQA‑1).
