General Responsibilities:
- Understand civil engineering and utility symbols and terminology related to plan & profile drawings for utility systems within public rights-of-way. Proficiency in PC applications, MicroStation, and AutoCAD is required.
- Work independently and with the Vice President to oversee the design and preparation of detailed CAD drawings for private underground utility systems.
- Provide CAD support for Utility coordination, Subsurface Utility Engineering, and Municipal Projects as workload demands.
- Ensure project completion within set deadlines and budgets, collaborating with leadership and clients.
- Manage the design and decision-making process, including sketches, drawings, specifications, and engineering data from clients or the Vice President, for final construction drawings.
- Work directly with survey notes and record utility drawings, understanding and interpreting them accurately.
- Plot plan view and plan & profile drawings, including cross-sections, elevations, and structures such as buildings, roads, utilities, and tunnels, based on survey notes or utility records.
- Collect field or utility record data as needed for construction drawings.
- Calculate project utility dimensions, grades, elevations, line sizes, and material quantities.
- Develop and maintain quality control standards for aerial and underground designs.
- Create and update training materials for staff development.
- Develop client pricing, budgets, and handle invoicing processes.
- Review monthly project management bills and manage accounts receivable.
- Conduct new hire interviews and train staff for development.
- Prioritize work, organize records, and maintain easy access to key documents.
- Collaborate effectively with clients, staff, supervisors, and principals.
- Participate in safety training and adhere to safety standards.
- Maintain a safe and efficient working environment at all times.
Required Experience:
- Ability to build strong professional relationships.
- Minimum of 5+ years managing staff, projects, and budgets.
- At least 10+ years of recent CAD experience, preferably with utility design projects.
- Proficiency in line styles, cell properties, coordinate systems, and profile data extraction, including TIN or DTM files and scaling techniques.
- Experience interpreting utility records and engineering plans, and creating base drawings from survey notes.
- Experience creating utility facility drawings for telecommunications, electric, gas, sewer, or water systems.
- Previous CAD support experience for subsurface utility engineering or utility design projects.
- Experience with the permitting process in Central Texas, including cities and utilities such as Austin Energy, PEC, Oncor, AT&T, etc.
Physical Requirements:
- Extended periods of computer work.
- Travel to meetings and job sites.
- Ability to lift up to 25 pounds and mobility within the office.
- Repetitive motions such as typing and reaching.
- Walking for data collection.
- Work may involve outdoor activities, exposure to weather, construction zones, allergens, and PPE use.
- Prolonged use of electronic devices.
