Job summary

Duke Energy Corporation is seeking a Senior Project Manager to own EPC contractor relationships within the Gas Generation program. You will drive alignment across PMO, Supply Chain, Legal, and Construction teams to ensure delivery excellence across a multi-billion-dollar portfolio.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree and 7+ years related experience; in lieu of a Bachelor’s, 11 years of experience with HS/GED.
• Preferred: Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Business, Project Management, or related field.
• MBA, Master's, PMP, PE, AACE, or other relevant professional certification.
• Familiarity with utility operations, project controls, commercial management, and contract administration.

Responsibilities

The Gas Generation PMO is seeking a highly motivated leader to serve as the primary business owner for Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contractor relationships across a multi-billion-dollar gas generation program. This role will provide strategic oversight of EPC engagement, performance management, risk identification, and continuous improvement initiatives across the program.

The successful candidate will partner closely with Project Management, Supply Chain, Project Controls, Construction, and EPC leadership teams to drive alignment, transparency, and accountability throughout the project lifecycle. This individual will leverage data, performance metrics, and industry best practices to identify emerging trends, address systemic issues, and improve overall program execution.

This role offers a unique opportunity to influence the successful delivery of critical generation assets while shaping long-term EPC partnership strategies across the enterprise.

Senior Project Manager (Sr PM) position has single point accountability or can be under general direction of a Sr. Project Director or Project Director. Sr PM position is responsible for management, or assisting management, of all phases of project planning and execution to ensure project success factors are met. These include but are not limited to scope, schedule, cost, quality, environmental, safety, communications, security, and integration. In addition, this position is highly involved in the funding management and budgeting of the project / program responsible. This position may have direct reports consisting of Project Managers and Project Controls and/or other resources such as construction management, engineering, administrative support staff and contingent workers.

This position is typically assigned a portfolio of "Green" or "Brown" ranked projects per the Project Management Center of Excellence Risk-Informed Ranking Process. Higher ranked projects with greater risk may also be assigned when accompanied with an Enhanced Support and Oversight Plan (ESOP).

The position is accountable for a portfolio of assigned projects with Moderate to High levels of risk and typically involve complex but mature technology and moderate complexity. Sr PM’s are accountable to various stakeholders that include facility and department level personnel in addition to Senior Management, and possibly the Board of Directors and External Agencies. Sr PM’s may be assigned to projects with specific risk-informed requirements based on specific experience and skill sets.

Sr PM’s serve as unifying agent providing leadership, decision making, management, guidance, direction, coordination, and control of overall projects in accordance with established policies, procedures, systems, and requirements of the Company.

This is a leadership position and minimum qualifications must be met to be placed within this position. Progression to this level is based on experience, knowledge, skills and abilities, and restricted on the basis of Business Unit needs to manage the portfolio.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead efforts to identify and address systemic issues affecting multiple projects, contractors, or workstreams.
• Support project teams throughout the project lifecycle, providing guidance and facilitating effective resolution of commercial and execution challenges.
• Coordinate construction and project performance reporting across stakeholders, ensuring consistency, accuracy, and timely communication.
• Support development of monthly program reporting, executive dashboards, and governance materials for senior leadership.
• Facilitate cross-functional reviews focused on contractor performance, program health, risk mitigation, and execution excellence.
• Promote best practices, knowledge sharing, and continuous improvement across the Gas Generation program.

Basic/Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree and 7 plus years work related experience OR,
• In lieu of Bachelors degree(s) AND 7 year(s) related work experience listed above, High School/GED AND 11 year(s) related work experience

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Business, Project Management, or a related field.
• Minimum of 10 years of progressively responsible experience leading complex capital projects.
• MBA, Master's degree, PMP, PE, AACE, or other relevant professional certification.
• Familiarity with utility operations, project controls, commercial management, and contract administration.
• Strong leadership, communication, negotiation, and decision-making skills.
