Job summary

MacAllister Machinery in Indianapolis, IN, is seeking an experienced Project Manager to lead the installation and startup of Caterpillar generator packages. You will coordinate field technicians, project management peers, third-party packagers, site contractors, and customers to ensure smooth execution.

Responsibilities include planning from PO receipt to completion, developing installation best practices, and ensuring on-site safety and timelines. A PMP and Caterpillar experience are preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Business, engineering (electrical or mechanical) or related field or the equivalent.
• 10+ years of experience or the equivalent in project management, purchasing and/or customer service, preferably in the electric power industry and with Caterpillar.
• Advanced computer skills (ie Microsoft Office, AutoCad, data base and project management systems) and CAT PC/Main Frame Programs.
• Thorough understanding of installation and application of electrical/mechanical products and project management methodologies.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment coordinating multiple tasks and demands.

Responsibilities

• Plans, manages and coordinates all aspects of new projects from PO receipt through completion.
• Develops best practices and technical systems to replicate installation/startup of large volume projects.
• Ensure equipment meets site requirements and respond to changes.
• Oversees delivery, offloading and installation, supporting technicians and contractors.
• Manages project expenses and schedules to maximize profitability.
• Provide answers to technical questions about Caterpillar and related products to engineers, contractors and sales teams.

Job description

Location: Indianapolis, IN, United States

This position is responsible for developing, managing and coordinating the installation and startup of a large volume of Caterpillar generator packages. This role will work closely with skilled MMC field technicians, project management peers, third-party packagers, site contractors, and our customers by leading onsite resources, addressing technical inquiries and ensuring the seamless application of the Caterpillar and ancillary equipment.

Position Duties/Responsibilities

• Plans, manages and coordinates all aspects of new projects from initial receipt of the purchase order through completion, including, coordinating product delivery to customer acceptance, and ensuring a smooth and efficient process.
• Process and Infrastructure Development: Develops best practices and technical (infrastructure) systems to efficiently replicate the installation and startup of the large volume projects
• Quality Assurance: Confirms that all delivered equipment meets site requirements and responds proactively to requests for additional information or changes.
• Logistics Coordination: Oversees the delivery, offloading, and installation of equipment, supporting technicians and contractors to guarantee correct installation and adherence to customer timelines.
• Financial Management: Manages and monitors the project expenses and schedules to maximize profitability while ensuring high levels of customer satisfaction.
• Technical Expertise: Point of contact to provide answers to technical questions and application questions about processes and systems regarding Caterpillar or other related products, supporting engineering teams, contractors, and sales teams.
• Collaboration: Works with vendors to resolve technical inquiries and build strong relationships with suppliers to enhance project outcomes.
• Adaptability: Performs additional related duties as needed to support team success.

Position Requirements

Required:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Business, engineering (electrical or mechanical) or related field or the equivalent.
• 10+ years of experience or the equivalent in project management, purchasing and/or customer service, preferably in the electric power industry and particularly with Caterpillar.
• Advanced computer skills (ie Microsoft Office software, such as Word and Excel, AutoCad, data base and project management systems and, CAT PC and Main Frame Programs)
• Thorough understanding of the installation and application of electrical/ mechanical products, and or software implementation and project management methodologies.
• Requires ability to work in a fast-paced environment with demonstrated ability to coordinate multiple competing tasks and demands.

Preferred:

• PMP Certification
• Direct knowledge of Caterpillar generator set products.
• Experience with CxAlloy or other similar commissioning software platforms.
