Job Position Summary

This senior electrical/software engineer will work with overhead cranes/hoists in the Konecranes Nuclear Equipment and Services (KNES) business, completing Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), Site Acceptance Testing (SAT), and final commissioning. The engineer should be able to read and design electrical schematics, use AutoCAD Electrical, perform electrical calculations, program PLCs using ladder logic, and design HMI applications (primarily Rockwell and Siemens). Responsibilities include performing field startups & testing, working in industrial environments, and having detailed knowledge of electric motor controls, utility circuits, safety circuits, and operator controls related to overhead cranes and hoists. Troubleshooting and resolving issues with circuit breakers, transformers, motor starters, contactors, relays, A.C./D.C. inverters, braking resistors, etc., are also key. Field activities may be domestic or international, lasting 1-2 months.

This position reports to the Electrical Engineering Supervisor.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Function as the lead electrical/software engineer on-site and provide technical supervision to team members. Collaborate with the project manager to meet work requirements and schedules, supporting the Installation Site Supervisor.
  • Troubleshoot and update/modify PLC and HMI programs that automate specific business processes.
  • Understand, read, design, and annotate single line diagrams, schematics, panel layouts, interconnects, and conduit drawings, ensuring proper configuration control by returning marked-up drawings to Engineering.
  • Calculate wire sizes, drive sizes, braking resistors, transformers, contactors, and overload protections for cranes up to 800V D.C. and 4160V A.C., following electrical codes and Konecranes standards.
  • Participate in Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and resolve problems collaboratively with other engineers and technicians.
  • Lead the engineering/software aspects at the site to prepare equipment for testing and execute Site Acceptance Testing (SAT) with the customer to verify functionality.
  • Maintain excellent customer relations, be solution-oriented, and willing to self-educate on new design concepts.
  • Contribute to design improvements with feedback on functions and cost reductions.
  • Travel domestically and internationally (20-40%) and work at heights up to 50+ feet.
Qualifications
  • 4-year Electrical Engineering degree (BSEE, BSEET) or equivalent.
  • 5-10 years of electrical engineering experience, including field startups, wiring, PLC and HMI programming, and setting up VFDs (Rockwell, Siemens, Magnetek).
  • Knowledge of NEC electrical code.
  • Leadership skills and ability to work customer-focused, even with challenging individuals.
  • Willingness to travel and stay in the field for extended periods.
  • Salary depends on experience.
